I usually keep everything running, but I'm curious if it's worth suspending anything while gone, like phone, etc.. Any pros/cons you can suggest?

The only things I do are:

1) suspend mail
2) suspend news paper
3) TURN OFF the water at the master valve (not suspend)
4) TURN OFF the water heater

Water pipe bursting can ruin the entire house in matter of hours. Also, having mail overflowing is a giveaway that you are not there.

Do have the A/C running at reduced setting and do not cut off the power to the refrigerator.

Depends on how long you're gone for. If it's 3 weeks or less, I wouldn't bother. Well, I'd suspend the daily newpaper subscription. I would turn down the water heater temp though.

More than that, I'd suspend cable/satellite tv. You don't want to suspend phone as they'll charge you to re-connect (at least they do here) and it's not really worth it. Electric and gas you need to keep on because of heating and lights on timers.

No matter how long you are gone. Put a lock on exterior phone boxes. This will only save you money if you have devious neighbors or lawn person. Someone jumped my friends fence and opened the phone box, plugged in a phone and made lots of long distant calls while she was out of town.
It took ages to prove to Sprint, now embarq that she was in another state and no one was supposed to be home, the they only reduced the charges by half.

It really depends on how long you're going. Unless you're gone 3 months at least, it's really not worth the hassle.
