I'd much rather allow the asker to 'distribute' the 'Best Answer' points across more than one answer.

I don't think that would be a good idea. As some have stated, it would just encourage others to give one word answers, just to get the 3 points. It also would make people only go to the questions that are the newest coming out...and that wouldn't be fair to those whose question made it to the 2nd or 3rd page due to the flow of questions coming in.

Because, believe it or not, the idea of this site is for people with real questions to get legitimate, well-thought-out answers to them. If yahoo offered extra points to the first answer, it would encourage people to post whatever they could type fastest, rather than what was a good answer to the question.

That wouldn't be really fair. For instance, am at work and this computer is fast. At home I have to use a slow one. It takes a while by the time I click "answer." Someone will always beat me. PLUS some people on here put longer - well thought out answers that take a little time. If that were the case, people would be typing "yes" and "no" to everything. That would be bad.

A lot of the 1st answers are a load of sh**e that's why. I think that the person asking the questions should be able to decide who gets any points at all instead of everyone getting 2 pts.

Because some people cheat.

They answer a question withing something like 'xxx'.
Then they go and research the real answer.
Then they come back, edit their answer, and put in the new one.
It's too easy to cheat to be first to allow extra points.

There is no skill in answering the question first. Most of the first answers really suck anyway.

Interesting point indeed. But we would need a proof reading thing or else I would go on a spree typing abcd in every answer

Because then there would be people racing to give a one-word answer, or in some cases, just a full-stop.
