i fully believe that the family of a victim should be the one to determine the punishment of a criminal. Personally, I' sentence them to a life of hard labor with a crust of bread and a glass of water each day for the rest of their miserable lives, chained up out in the open every night and definitely no medical care or special treatment whatsoever. No communication from friends or family, no newspapers no companionship except a mute guard with a shotgun full of rock salt to keep watch over him.

I have never believed capital punishment was wrong. I think it is better than "punishing" them by giving them a life time of freebies. What kind of punishment is it when you get everything a law-abiding citizen has to work for (and sometimes cannot even afford) for free?
The only alternative I think would be acceptable would be to use rapists, child molesters and murderers for medical and product testing instead of the innocent animals.

Yes I would.
Because I believe the government should not fall to the level of an eye for an eye. That's a very primitive feeling and completely understandable for people losing a loved one.
I would not judge a person hard who took the law into their own hands when something like in your question happened to them.I just think that the legal system should be above that pure animal revenge emotion.
It's a choice on the society you wanna live in.
That said,if it happened to me I would put my ethics aside probably and just seek revenge as well.I hope you see I'm not judging here,I can see where you're coming from and would not be able to live to my own standards if confronted whit such horror.
I'm just saying that society should always choose the high road as much as it can

Capital punishment is not wrong in concept, but in practice it's a bit too messy. It costs taxpayers more money to send a criminal to the electric chair than it does to lock him up for life. That's just stupid. There is some evidence that racism might play a role in it as well, although that is not certain. Also, a lot of people are concerned with the methods used to kill these criminals.

To quote Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof. "If everyone lived by 'an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,' the world would be blind and toothless."
People whose loved ones were murdered and want so called “justice” brought through the use of the death penalty will often claim that it is closure. Closure is garbage, the death penalty is nothing more than revenge.

There's an old joke:
What's the definition of a Republican? A Democrat who has just been robbed.
What's the definition of a Democrat? A Republican who has just been convicted of robbery.
While the above isn't accurate, there is something to be said for the notion that people's views are colored by their experience.

Nope. And if someone took the life of one of my loved ones, I'd want to do the executing. It may sound sick, but I would want the personal satisfaction of knowing that this deviant was no longer a part of any society and it would help with dealing with the loss.

Yes, I would still think it's wrong. The death of the murderer would not bring back my loved one. I see no point in ending another human being's life...

What kind of punishment is death? I say let them rot in prison, the best punishment is for them to live a long life.

Capital punishment is not wrong. However, I do not take joy when someone must be put to death. It should be treated in a somber, sober manner.
