Times change...that's a fact. I don't think anyone can dispute that. I have been seeing a common argument in Republican vs. Democrat racism issues. "The Democrats started the KKK." First of all, even if that is true (I don't know the whole history of the Klan and don't care) that doesn't mean that hating minorities is a main platform that the Democrats still stand upon. Is it really difficult to understand that the Dems don't agree with the KKK either? The only reason they are not trying to outlaw the Klan is because as despicable as their view is, it is their constitutional right...unfortunately. Right to assemble and right to free speech. I know a lot of you righties hate that free speech thing, but you can't change it. But you take that as, "Democrats love the KKK." Simply not true. Now tell me, is that really hard to understand?
And please...no KKK history lessons. That's not what I'm asking for. Thank you.

cirque_de_lune: I wasn't actually referring to you...I have seen others use the KKK defense. You were not a target here...but thanks for understanding what I was saying.

Farly the Seer: I'm only judging by what I've seen in here. I know that not ALL righties hate free speech, I'm only talking to the ones that do.

MDPeterson42: Yeah, I've seen this argument used on more than a few occasions. And it's just used by ignorant, uneducated fools.
And the Democrats are not trying to surpress the Christians right to free speech. The religious right is trying to infringe upon free speech via censorship (although it is not entirely the religious folks that are doing so).
I'm hoping that you do understand my point though...nobody supports the KKK. I don't like them at all. And when they act violently against minorities, they should be punished. But that won't kill the group's ideals. To them, they are doing God's work by keeping America "clean" from Jews, Blacks, Mexicans, etc...
My argument would be this: How can the Democrats (Liberals) favor the KKK when one of the Liberal platforms is to be open-minded and welcoming to other cultures and races? (Not implying that you are stating otherwise.)

Are people actually using this argument? I'm on the right and I wouldn't make this argument! I have gone so far as to mention that Abe Lincoln, who freed the slaves, was the first Republican President...but in truth, it's current facts that are the most relevant.

I think the problem is that Democrats are able to convince minority groups that Republicans are racist when this is actually not the case. But, because Republicans try to limit entitlements like welfare, and because many people on welfare are minorities, Democrats claim that Republicans are racist. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Ironic also that someone would say that righties hate free speech when the left will do anything to limit the rights of Christians to celebrate their religion in a public forum. I can't think of any greater limit to free speech than this!

Whatever supposed Republicans you're talking to are morons. Current day Democrats and the KKK have no ties.

But you're just as bad. You complain about Republicans tying Democrats to the KKK, but then you say, "I know a lot of you righties hate that free speech thing..." As long as you spew inaccurate garbage, you have to expect to get inaccurate garbage in return. Is that really hard to understand?

I never heard this about Dems and the KKK. I've always thought of Republicans as racist and Dems as being more inclusive. It seems that Dems do get the majority of the votes from minorities. It seems that wouldn't be very likely if they were burning crosses at their political rallies.

I never said the Democratic party likes the KKK. I agree with you, nobody likes them and nobody supports them. And I think freedom of speech is taken advantage of in this country sometimes.

Good for you about understanding the constitutional rights. Yes, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion and belief. The problem occurs when they start taking away other people's rights based on their hate. If you hate someone, you don't have to play with them or marry them, but doesn't have the right to kill or threaten their security. If we think about it, everyone has preference for one over the other in virtually all issues, people, and things. Having an opinion is one thing, but thinking that opinion is superior to others and acting on it supressing that of others is probably an act of violating another person's constitutional rights.

I'm a democrat and from the north. I don't understand the KKK, don't care about them, don't want to learn about them, and in my world they don't even exsist until I see some stupid thing on tv about them. Dispicable people.....
