you know what........I remember in 2004 the shock in hearing about Totti's spitting incident.....which arouse when an opponet insulted him......no one asked then what the player said to Totti for him to react that way.......not a word was mentioned......this was in the European Cup..........not even the italians protested.......they agreed it was not something you do on a soccer field let alone a high profile tournament, in 2004 Totti was to Itay what Zidane was to France in 2006.......the heart and soul of the team, what's even funnier is that Totti did not come with a history of such poor sportsmanship, Zidane does, and what Zidane did in my opinion is the very worst kind of foul you can do, so you know what, all the excuses in the world will not pardon his bone-head act, this is his 5th offense of such kind.....don't make him a god....I for one don't preach violence..shame on you Zidane, you went from star to goon, throw all the insults you want, bottom line - he's a shameful nut.

may I aslo add in responding to some of your comments......for one......no one really knows what was said by Materazzi.....even according to Zidane it wasn't a racial slur or have anything to do with religion or race or color.......and please answer me this.....why aren't you asking what the player said to Totti to make react the way he did by spitting....let me see......is their one set of rules for Totti(maybe because he's italian)..and another set of rules for Zidane?..seriously....in making your comments please tell me your views on the Totti incident who served his punishment without speaking a word and why we should feel sorry for poor Zidane?....explain please....I'm curious to see if it's an anti-italian thing.......and for the coffin thing.....they always do it.in Italy....even in 1982....there's a little history lesson!!

Exploradora.......where do you get your news......a french station or what?.....video replay was NOT used and Fifa put out a clear official statement stating that........but you are right on one thing though.........video replay was used to suspend Totti in 2004.......actually it was furnished by the opposing team's tv. station.....know your facts please......and for Zidane.....a half assed apology is not acceptable.....especially when it's your 5th offense......Zidane a hero?.......he's a clown now........all that crap about Materazzi doing it once and twice and then the third time he lost it......think on this.........he's even dumber than originally thought......that means he had ample chances then to warn the ref......BUT HE CHOOSE NOT TO BECAUSE BUMS FROM SLUMS KNOW OF NO BETTER WAY!!!

I agree with you Nico...thank you for sharing your excellent comparison about the Totti incident!!!! What Zidane did was the worst action possible in the game of soccer!! There is no excuse for what he did and yes NO ONE has the truth on what was said between Materazzi and Zidane, and regardless of that, there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for his head-butt!!! They are making such a big deal out of it becuaes they are jealous and can't come to grips with the fact that France didn't even deserve to be in the Finals and that Italy won the cup....so they have to blame someone for the captain's immature behaviour and then come up with a lame excuse that Italy won because Zidane got red carded....I might add that they had scored ONE PENALTY kick and then sat idly so do you think the remaing minutes would have been any different?!!!
P.S. A lot of this controversy stems from jealousy plain and simple and most of the people who make commets don't know a thing about soccer and write ignorant comments on yahoo answers because no one else will listen to their stupidity!!!

My feelings about Totti and Zidane are they were both wrong. When you have idolized these people to the point where you expect them to be perfect, I believe you are dellusional. These are human beings, prone to mistakes. Will the perfect one among you please stand up?
I dont see the point in insulting Zidane or Totti for mistakes they made in light of our own humanity. I think they both know that what they did was wrong and stupid. Its not all about what you do, but how you deal with the consequences. Anybody can do something wrong, but its takes a man to admit that he is wrong. I believe Zidane has done that by saying what he did was " reprehensible."
He was wrong, he commited a "bone-head" act, he admitted it. What else do you want from him? Its folly to crucify him on a cross of self-righteousness.
Although both Totti and Zidane were wrong, there IS a difference between a pound of leather and a pound of feathers.
--------------------
I believe the protest comes with the fact that both the Italian and French coachs have stated that the official used video evidence to give Zidane a red card. This is against the FIFA rules, therefore it was an illegal red card. This has nothing to do with how right or wrong Zidane was, but everything to do with rule infractions.

well...it's easy men... 'cause those person are all RACIST and hypocrite... it's the same thing, but Totti wasn't justified and this stupid Zidane was just because he's African and it is not "politically correct"...
the great difference is that and headbutt like that hurt and you can't breath for some second, remember Materazzi is 1.90 m and almost is 90 Kg... it was really violent !!!!
no, there is not comparison, Zidane is worst than Totti!!
but the great difference is that Italian didn't pardon a so bad action, French did it the day after...
think about it...

and after Euro 2004, did anyone did up a fake coffin/body with Totti's name on it? But it happen in WC 2006, which this was one of the "gift" the fan's give to welcome the Italy team during the return home.... What does that shows? Its very personal.
Well.. Zidane's action shld be control and uncall for. And of cos a true red card foul. He already got his punishment. But I think now what everyone is looking for is the punishment on Materazzi who use insults on the pitch. If violence isn't one that we shld support, neither is RACISM..
Therefore shame on u Materazzi.. u dn't know the true meaning of WC.. its not all abt winning and kissing the cup..

What is this about accepting anything because it is on a football field?Or in a tournament?
Where did you learn about respect?
Anywhere, anytime if you don't respect me, you'll find out one way or another.I don't care if it's in a church, restaurant, fooball field or at work.
What is it whit this :insult me or spit on me,it's ok?No way.
I respect you as long as you respect me,that's all.
