Yes, breast tenderness is a sign of peri-menopause, and menopause. It is also a sign of pregnancy, bruising, hickies, and recent mammograms.
It is also a sign of fibro-cystic breast disease, which sounds more likely. Try cutting out all caffeine for a few days and it should go away. (You'll get a splitting headache, if you are addicted.)
When I was 34, I had very tender, swollen breasts, and stopped drinking caffeine and it went away in about a week. I took aspirin for the headaches.
I had peri-menopause at 38 and was full-blown menopausal at 46. At 52, I quit altogether, except for occasional hot-flashes.
Now, I walk down the tampon aisle and laugh!

Breast tenderness can be anything from a symptom of your period or a bruise or something else.

Perimenopausal symptoms vary and you aren't too young to experience them. Although I'm several years older and have no symptoms yet. Perimenopause usually occurs about 10 years before menopause.

I am 36, too. A couple years ago, I suddenly started experiencing breast tenderness as part of PMS. I used to never get symptoms before my period except maybe some cramps. Now a week of very sore breasts always precedes my period. I think it's just a change in hormone levels as we get older.

at 36 it might be a sign of pregnancy
36 is too early for menopause
if you aren't pregnant it could just eb other hormonal changes. many people get breast tenderness before their periods
or... are you stressed out not getting enough sleep
do you do regular self exams for cancer
if it does't go away i would talk to your doctor
