You may find greater success with grants from private foundations, rather than federal sources.

For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online. It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) and their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices."

The Foundation Center has a bigger database of private grants for non profit organizations http://fconline.fdncenter.org/ It is also a subscription based website, but you can subscribe to it for one month and get all the information you can get.

Most religious grant-making institutions are local. You should ask religious leaders in your area; they may be able to point you in the right direction.
