Streak plates are generally used for isolation of a define colony. You use it to separate one cell from other cells. Great for separating but doesnt work with higher volumes nor can you get a concentration count. Spread plates are generally used for plate counts or when your dealing with a larger liquid volume. You must do several dilutions if you want to select an indivisual colony depending on your CFU/ml concentration. Ive been doing microbiology for 7 years and ive never heard of anybody using a "pour" plate. I think you may mean a overlay plate. An overlay plate are used for phage titers.

Advantages of streak plate: Hassle-free, convenient, usually you will be able to get a few visible individual colonies in just one plate if your streaking skills are good.
Spread plate: i cant think of any advantages at the moment.
Pour plate: You will b able to see that some colonies grow on the surface, or below the surface due to their different biochemical/ oxygen needs.
Disadvantage of Spread plate and pour plate: You just got to do a bunch of serial dilutions... which can be v tiring... sleep.gif! And then you have to prepare many plates to spread or pour...and sometimes the diluted samples might not be the right concentration so u have to do it again!! The horror! Very time consuming, agar wasting. LOL sorry i just loathe doing that sometimes..
Also this might be helpful in the future

It really depends on your application. If you are looking for a bacterial viable count (I don't want to venture into mycology) you have basically three options: the pour plate, the spread plate and the most probable number (MPN). The advantage of the spread plate over the pour plate is (duh!) that you don't have to pour your plate and be worried that the warm agar will damage your bacteria. The spread plate seems to be your method of choice (when compared with the MPN) for any application with the following exceptions: * highly motile bacteria (e.g. Proteus sp.) can make the identification of individual colonies difficult, * bacteria that prefer liquid medium- this is a no brainer: if it doesn't grow well on plates the spread method is not a good idea (one application that comes to mind is when you try to get accurate counts from material in which a lot of bactria are "weak"; recovery in a liquid medium is much better than on a plate) * samples that contain a very low number of bacteria; remember that you need a minimum number of bacteria on your spread plate available for counting to minimize your error Personally, I like the spread plate because it also allows you to spot contaminants. Please let me know if you found this helpful. Plenty of links enclosed to browse through. Enjoy!

Spreading the wealth is what happens with your payroll taxes each paycheck. The "kitty" or pool of taxes is spread between the earmarks of the acting administration. So for the other posters who answered that since they work, they should not have to pay for beer swilling types, guess what, your taxes do just that already. Specific to your question, there are two schools of thought. Your community and your State should be the first providers of the monies for education in every location. The belief that National endowments should augment that is where the division lies. Should the Constitutional authority of States rights, and responsibilities be primary, or should more be given nationally to communities where a deficit in ability to pay for the same level of education override that concern? No matter where you find yourself on this divide, you must know that your federal tax dollars are spent each day in "spreading the wealth." The question in this election is where do you want those dollars spent? Iraq or the USA?
