I want to buy a Chanel bag on eBay. How will I know that it isn't fake? Is the price a good indicator?

There are bags on the site that look like Chanel (the double c's, popular styles) but they go for under $100. They have tags and claim they come with dustbags, authenticity card, etc, but are really cheap. Then there are other bags in the same styles and colors which cost upwards of $600 to a thousand. I think the cheap ones are likely fake but then I'm worried I might miss a great deal. The seller says in the ad that the items are 100% authentic but can I really believe that? And if I buy the bag, how will I test its authenticity once I receive it?

There is no way to tell until you get it, unfortunately. They say the shininess of the leather and/or the color, but I haven't found that to be true. But, there's nothing wrong with throwing a few fakes into your collection. Nobody will ever know but you. ;) Then, if it happens to get damaged, you won't be out $600-$1000...just a hundred bucks or so. I can pretty much guarantee it's not an authentic Chanel bag if it's $100...you can't even get a Chanel key chain for that price. lol Good luck with your purchase. :)

You will hardly ever find an authentic Chanel bag on eBay...I know that Chanel does not sell any bags online at all. My best advice would be just spend the money, because an authentic Chanel bag is absolutely wonderful and well worth the money...the tags and dust bag could be fake, even the receipts can be fake! If you are really dead set on buying it on ebay, check the guides written by other ebay members, and it will help you spot fakes easier.

Oh, and as far as checking if its fake, I know some stores will do this for you...but I'm not sure about Chanel, you could maybe write an e-mail asking, or if you live near a store, go ask a salesperson there.

If you want a real Chanel bag, buy one from a local place that you know where they are real.......i got something from eBay that was not authentic and i got it appraised {it was a fake} and sent a copy of the appraisal to eBay and the dealer got kicked off of eBay....but i bet the next week they were back on with a different name and such......be warned,,, you get what you pay for. Only in extreme cased does someone really get "lucky".

It's a hit and miss game. Read the feedback and see if any other buyer have had problems with fake bags. It crossed my mind a few times maybe there are stolen. But it's a dog eat dog world out there. If you purchase the item and it is not real report them to ebay and leave negative feedback. Read the return policy the buyer offers.

If it's leather, look at the picture.
1.First of all, the pic should look like it was hand-taken not like a magazine photo.
2.The leather should be matted with a little bit of sheen. the fake ones have very shiny coatings.
3.Look at a picture of the real thing a the offical website.
4.Look at the other stuff he sells (Do they look like the same quality?)
5. Be Smart. Who would sell a designer bag for $100. There's probably something wrong with it.

When filling it out, use pencil! First, write down what rooms or spots you would like to work on. When you work on that spot, fill in your progress: how many bags you got, where they will go (goodwill, garbage, family member, garage sale).
