There are already blood tests, waiting periods and even counseling requirements in some states. Also, some states still have laws regarding what you can do intimately with your wife/husband. Do we need the government that active in our private lives or should we have the right to make our own decisions even if they end up being mistakes?

No, I don't think the government has the right to regulate who we decide to spend the rest of our lives with. This is supposed to be the land of the free where we can practice whatever religion we want, speak our minds freely and all that other jazz. But bring a topic up like gay/lesbian marriages and the government is the first to jump in and deny those rights.

As far as I know, you can live with anybody you choose to live with. And as consenting adults, you are free to do most anything you like in the privacy of your bedroom.

It's just that the gov't won't necessarily grant legal status to it.
