A dry metric tonne is 1000 kilograms, and is a common unit of measure for products that are sold as a solution. For example sodium hydroxide is a common industrial chemical sold as a solution of 50 percent Sodium Hydroxide and 50 percent water by weight. So if I buy a pound of this solution, you only have half a pound of sodium hydroxide. And for purposes of valuing the product, you only want to pay for the sodium hydroxide and not the water. So you would want to know how many dry tonnes you have and ignore the added water.
