We were never meant to. Life without conflict would not be interesting, or sane.

It's usually because there is always someone who is wanting to impose their will upon others. There appears to be too many people today who are telling too many other people what to do; in other words, there are too many people minding everyone else's business, rather than their own. People of various cultures, philosophies and theologies feel that their culture, philosphy and theology is better than others and then try to impose their thoughts on others, even demanding that others think and act the way they do.
I sincerely feel that if more people would simply take care of their own affairs instead of everyone else's; while at the same time developing some respect for others, we would all just get along much better.

First of all, a lot of people do just get along with each other.
I think people who dont are afraid. We all have a mental map of how the world, our world is or should be. Not everyone's map is the same. Some people dont understand that and think that their map is the only one and therefore are afraid of people who are different because they dont understand them.
In truth we do get along best with people who have something in common with us, where our maps overlap.
I think the sky is blue, grass is green, sugar is sweet. For me these are true. I cannot understand how someone could believe that sky is orange, grass is pink and sugar is sour.
If you think that sky is blue and grass is green but dont agree about the sugar, our maps overlap but we have something in common. We can concentrate on the things that are the same and agree to differ about the sugar or just focus on the differences.
If the differences are the only things we see then we may be afraid and will not get along together.

Because the tolerant are intolerant of the intolerant.
And 1/2 the time the intolerant are right.
So the tolerant perform injustices.
And think they're immune, as if a constitutional governent exonerates everyone who lives under it.
People are starving and oppressed and work long hours to pay bills for **** they don't need. Other people think they're virtuous upstanding citizens, extol their great "responsibility!" when it's completely fortuitous what social environment they end up in.
You think there's no injustice?
NONE?
The majority of welfare gets doled out to corporate unemployment. You can't get food stamps AND go to college.
People have to sell drugs because there simply aren't jobs or social programs to keep them alive.
And when they get convicted at least they'll get respect in prison.
Anyone who thinks that's fair is a lunatic.
And if you told me in person it Was fair, I'd punch you in the face so hard the impression of my ring would be scared in your skull.

We can! It's just that most people are too selfish to see the big picture and know that we're all contributing to poverty, environmental distruction etc. If we actually thought about each other for a while, I reckon we'd probably get along.

Religous speak: 'Cos God gave each and every one of us free will to do as we wish' (and we screw up)
Normal speach: 'cos we are human beings with human failures and nobody can like everybody all of the time and no 2 people have the same temperament, but hey How boring would life be if we were all the same.

We all have our wants, needs and desires and they usually tend to get in the way of someone else's wants and needs and desires. Getting along = compromise = sacrifice and oh, heaven forbid we, in our production and accomplishment driven society, should sacrifice anything for anyone else, especially someone we might not even know.
Humanity.....well, it could be worse,....I guess.

it all depends on the person, since we are all too different, we have different opinions about things, you can't be friend with everybody, even Jesus had enemies, but you can try to like everybody, and understand everybody, than you'll get closer to a better world! It's all up to you!

Because we all seek a sense of identity, and identity (be it personal, peer, community, nationalistic, or even racial identity) is defined by conflict. By our natures we develop a sense of self not by what we do, but by what we do not. Thus, we conflict with others who are in some way unlike ourselves. It is a selfish aspect of being human, but it is also a natural one.

because it is to our governments' best interest to keep us in the dark & ignorant by making us constantly afraid of whatever "evil" is dawning upon us.
Read Orwell's "1984" book, or watch the film.
