Okay !!
The Computer Actually Takes The AC Current From Outlet
and The S.M.P.S./P.S.U. Inside The CPU Cabinet Converts
The AC to Required DC Current Using Voltage Switching
Technology.
The Power Supply Unit(P.S.U.) Converts The Main Voltage
Among 3 Different Voltages Are As Follows :
1. 12Volts
2. 5Volts
3. 3.3Volts
Noted : 12Volts for PC H.D.D. Motors(Electrical Mechanical Devices).
5 and 3.3 Volts for Analog and Digital Circuitry.
Thanks for Reading... :)

All of the internals of a computer run on DC current. While desktops need to be plugged into an AC source to work, that AC source is converted to DC at the internal power supply.

Computer use AC current as it s power source but it convert to DC before entering it. Adapter is during the process. Typical HP adapter I am using is 100-240V, 1.7A, 50-60hz (giving hz means AC) input with 18.5V, 3.5A, 65W output. A computer is basely a bit machine that take 0V for 0 and other volt for 1. You can t use AC for your computer because AC will change over time. Using AC for computer is like driving a car alternating from left to right. Also, you can t connect AC directly to your machine because the typical current for computer components operates at a micro scale (correct me if I am wrong). You can use the following website to see different power consumptions for varies components. Btw, you can use the same adapter for most of the countries because frequency ranged from 50 to 60 hz and voltage ranged from 120 to 240 V worldwide.

Most computers accept AC from the net to run or charge their batteries (batteries in laptops usually).
Before the cumputer can use it that AC is converted to DC in the power supply and most mainbords and components require DC inputs (12, 5 and 3.3 volts) which gets adjusted as necessary for internal use (some processors require lower voltages).
Internally the DC will get converted to AC again (sound card) as needed.
Some laptop power supplies can pull power from you car battery which will make them "true" dc appliances.

A tower(desktop) has a power supply unit which contains a transformer( steps down to lower voltage) and rectifiers which convert AC to DC. So it is supplied by a power company as AC and get converted to DC by the power supply. Therefore it uses DC
