Law label: Term used by the United States mattress, upholstery and stuffed article (eg: pillows, plush toys, Comforters, etc) industry for the legally required tag or label on new items describing the fabric and filling. Typically these tags begin with a phrase such as This tag may not be removed under penalty of law except by the consumer. Some states require tags on used bedding as well.

Mattresses and pillows used to be filled with dangerous material. Much more combustible and flammable than the stuff in them now. In the 30s I believe, the government required labels to display what the contents were. Once you take the mattress or pillow home, you can remove the tags. The tags are required in the store or warehouse.

Yes, I take the tags off from everything.

The tearing off the tag warning is not meant for the end user but for the companies handling the item between the manufacturer and the final purchaser.

As an aside, I applaud Hanes for making tagless T's.

Well, when I did that one time, there was a ring at my door. There stood two huge ratbastards who grabbed me and shoved me to the ground. Then they began to give me a purple nurple. I cried. The came the slapping my belly part, followed by a wedgey. They then left my place. I was left on the floor, where I stayed until the bell rang aagin. I got up, opened the door and looked down. They was a flaming bao of dogshit. I stamped it out and had to buy new shoes. SO never tear those tags off folks.

there are no consequences it is mostly for the seller . They dont want the seller to rip off the tags and the buyer not know what is in it. Like i am allergic to feather pillows so if I didnt know it was a feather pillow it could be harmful to me. You get it. You wont get in trouble if you rip it off after you buy it.

It refers to people who do it before the pillow is purchased. There is a warning on the label.

When I saw your question...I immediately went and tore off a tag. I guess nothing happens because I am talking to you! Seriously, I do wonder why they attach those tags.....I guess for Big Brother!

If you read carefully, it says the tag should not be removed except by the consumer....which you are, so there are no consequences if you tear them off.
