What are these brown beetles which have infested silicon valley (e.g. Sunnyvale) lately?

This year they seem much worse than I remember. They are about 1/2 inch long and a light brown color. They seem to appear mainly around dusk, and are attracted to lights (so they find their way into the house).

June bugs. They are everywhere! And yes, they are worse this year than years past.
