Tim Burton. The visuals in his movies are pitch-perfect, there is always a wicked sense of humor present in his films, and he always chooses good stories (except for that unfortunate incident with The Planet of the Apes.. and what director would turn down the chance to remake a classic like that?)

To me, his best movie is Ed Wood. It's just freakin' hilarious.

It's got to be Martin Scorsese. He directed some of the greatest films of the 70's,80's and 90's (Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas) and is still going strong now. He also discovered arguably the greatest actor ever when he gave Robert De Niro the role of Johnny Boy in Mean Streets. Marty, you are my hero!!!

Well i reckon that George Lucas is by fart the most influential movie director of all time, not only did he produce, write and direct the biggest movie franchise in history but he also created and started up.... Lucasarts,Skywalker ranch where THX is situated and last but not least he started PIXAR movies.
This one man changed the course of cinema history and allowed every single movie makers dream to become a possibility with the technology he created

Jean Pierre Jeunet (and Marc Caro). I love Tim Burton but Jean Pierre Jeunet has such a sense of the fantastical. Delicatessan and City of Lost Children are beautiful films with just enough sentimentality.

I don't really follow directors that much but the person who made the most movies that I liked is Kevin Smith. Director of Clerks... Dogma... Etc.... I love comedies.

Tough question...

I'd say John Houston from the classic era, and Martin Scorsese from the contemporary directors.
