In the early part of the twentieth century children were exploited in sweat shops for very little pay. They were treated poorly and their education was often neglected. To correct this congress passed the child labor laws to protect children.

Because in the early Industrial Age, there were kids under 18 working in some factories, their paid and salaries were so little as comparision with the Adult. The only reason for that was they were kids, no need that much money, or they did not have a family to take care of. It became some kind of abuse. Therefore, the Law states that people have the right to work over 18. Why 18? Because scientific discovery showed that in general, people over 18, physically, mentally, are more stablable to work, because they have a clear mindset and physical captablility to do what they are doing. On the other hands, people under 18, actually don't really know what they really want to do and what they are doing. However, some kids grow faster than the others, 18, is just a line, anyway, Law states it, no one can change it. And I have to tell you, in the past, in some European Countries, one time, the working age was 21.

There are labour laws in place to protect workers of all ages.At 13 it is admirable that you want to earn some money but concentrate on your education. You can take a course for babysitting and you can make reasonable money. People recognize it is a big responsibility. If you are good at it word of mouth will get you more jobs. Some jobs are dangerous and therefore at your age you may not have the appropriate understanding of the risk a certain job may entail.I know the fast food restaurants offer employment to many young people (but I'm not sure of the age....just ask them) .You could walk dogs, mow lawns, run errands ,wash cars, paper route, etc. Ask your parents and family for ideas. Laws are in place so you don't get taken advantage of in the workplace. Make sure your parents approve of your work schedule because they have your best interests in mind at all times (even if you sometimes may not think so) Good luck.

All of the above are good ideas. If you love animals, you could offer your services as a dog walker or pet sitter. People nowadays have to go away on business or simply work all day. There is a real market for this. However, many people think of their pets as their kids. You will have to be a VERY responsible person to make a go of this. Just one pet getting loose and hit by a car could ruin your career!

If you are a responsible and mature 13 year old, look for jobs in your neighborhood, like babysitting, dog walking, or cutting lawns. You can also get a paper route for your local paper delivery. Good luck!
If you find work, you must make it a priority over your friends, TV, computer games, etc., otherwise, no one will hire you a second time!

Because 13 year olds are not mature enough to handle the stress of a real job, nor do their parents want to drive them around every day. You can do odd jobs, paper routes, babysitting, mowing lawns etc to earn money. Ask your mom if you can come up with a chore list and price with each one and she can pay you to do things around the house. That's how my 13 year old earns money.

when you start working then you have no chance of quitting, so this is the time you take life easy and concentrate in your studies more. be happy of what you have, i am working since i am 16 now i am 38... so cool down ..... if law allows underage to work than no body will be educated and children will suffer from bad influence in life when they mix with wrong working adult.

The point behind child labor laws was so that kids could be just that...kids...and so as to prevent children from being abused and overworked.

you can still babysit-- or cut grass, or help seniors in your neighborhood. You won't get rich, but you'll have a little spending money.
