When I first read your question, the first thing I thought is what's so funny? I read on, if you really didn't know, I understand.

I'm an American and I had heard for years that supposedly in China, you were only allowed 2 children and they all wanted boys to help do work and whatever. I used to hear that many little girls were killed or aborted.

In the U.S. today there are many little chinese girls that are adopted. I personally have a few relatives that have adopted a total of 5 little girls from China. I know someone that is in the works of adopting a little girl also. I've also heard that many Americans adopt Chinese little girls, because when the adoption is final, it is final. In the U.S. the adoptive mothers have at least a year to reclaim their child.

I think this is good. As long as they are given up for adoption and not killed, and it helps americans who cannot have children. Many in the U.S. are thrilled to have these little girls. I have never heard of a Chinese male being adopted though.

It is true, and still practiced in parts of China, most especially in rural locations. The historical presidency of male preference is pervasive even today, and with China's population being what is, a woman is still pressured to have boy children. Though girls are often adopted out, many are aborted. Because a family in China has to pay the government for more than two children, and boy children are so dearly treasured still, there are many little Chinese girls without family's. Think about it for a while, and maybe that smile will wear a bit thin...

It's true and nothing to actually laugh about either. China has a one child rule, anymore than that the husband has to pay about a 2500 yen fine. So most couples prefer a male, since he'll stay in the family and care for them, unlike a female who will go to her husband's family and help him with his elderly parents and it's likewise in India as well.

A lot of females are either abandoned, left to die, buried, suffocated at birth or aborted. India has even passed a law there aren't suppose to Sex selected ultrasounds but some doctors actually still do it. And most females are aborted since also in India there has to be a dowry given to the husband and his family for him to marry a daughter. And that could be anything and expensive.

Until very recently china had very strict laws regulating how many children, and families who only are able to have one child want it to be a male in order to carry on the family name, thousands of baby girls have been killed or dumped in garbage bins because of this, public outcry led to the end of this policy but it must be noted that china is a communist state, who will lie any time it helps them out so it may still be going on. FYI maybe you should not laugh at the idea of thousands dieing till you are sure its not true.

Well, in China there's a rule where you're only supposed to have one child (if you have more, you're taxed for it). This is supposed to curb overpopulation. In Chinese culture, boys are more valued than girls, because they're the ones who stay with their families after they get married and care for them. Girls are the ones who go off and live with her husband and his family, so they have less worth. So there have been cases where families have, in fact, killed their child if they found out it was a girl, or arranged to have an abortion. Sometimes girls are simply abandoned, or not listed in the census so that they technically do not exist, at least on paper.

China isn't the only one who has done this, either. India also has problems with this, as, again, boys are more highly valued than girls.

Why are you laughing. Some female children have been killed or put in orphanages because in the Chinese culture it is better for the first born to be a male so he can support and care for the parents when they are old. Since China only allows one child per family now, girls are less desirable.

A lot of ancient cultures practiced infanticide if the child couldn't grow up to be a productive member of society. ( i.e.: Physically disabled, mentally disabled or " sickly ". ) Some areas of China supposedly killed Female children if they couldn't support them, or when the girl was old enough, supposedly sold her into prostitution. I say " supposedly ", because I've never been to China.

In china they have to pay taxes on their children, if it is a girl they also have to provide a dowry, and the last name is lost. Therefore boys are more valuable in their culture and most families can only afford one child. So it is none to happen that they kill the girl children, leave them on the side of the road, or give them up for adoption.

yes this is true but they dont do it as much today as i the past. Killing the females has caught up to China because now there are too many males over there and not enough females so now the men have no one to marry or have sex with. it is now a big problem over there.

unfortunatley it is true at time in China your allowed 2 children because they are so crowded and the man ussually can decide during ultrasound if he wants the first one to be kept if it is a girl or he can decide that his wife is to have a abortion and destroy the girl and try again, for those who have girls and didnt want a girl they have been dumped in garbage put in orphanages and even killed.
