Okay, so, he doesn't have the job anymore, however, should I send him the bill for the drug test? It's $40.50. Not that I think he will ever pay it, but, just to point out that he cost the company money, and how inconsiderate he is.

You should always make them pay for it. If they pass you return their money on their first pay check. Have it in writting and Have them sign it. Then you are not out anything.

You really should check with your state's employment laws first. In some states it's illegal for an employer or potential employer to bill a potential employee for job related drug screening.

In some states it's perfectly legal as long as the physician bills the potential employee's medical insurence.

In some states it's covered by Work Comp.

So goes the way of the hiring process. If you don't want to worry about such things then go through a temp agency for your employees, then hire them after a few months.

I would send it. He wasted your time- with the job interview and setting up of the test. If he didn't want the job, the mature thing to do would have been to call and graciously decline your generous offer.

That's not a bad idea, really! You're right he probably won't pay it but maybe he'll think twice before he jerks around another potential employer.
