Tell your family about your concerns. Maybe there is another position or responsibilities you could fill to make this job a better one. If your responsibilities become more challenging, I am sure a raise would follow. If this doesn't work tell them you would have to look for more challenging employment elsewhere. You can't be unhappy 40 hours a week until you retire, or can you?

Do you have a college degree? If not, talk with your family (Mom and Dad?) about going to school and tell them why. It will be hard for them to understand why you don't want to work in the family business, but they should also understand that you want to "branch" out.
If you already have a college degree, start to work on your resume. Look in the want ads and on the Internet for jobs in your field, and go to job interviews. Even if you don't get the job, the interview experience is worth the time.
You may find out you actually like working in the family business once you have been in the "outside world."
Take a risk and test your wings.

I am so in the same boat as you! I work for my mother in a small company and I spend the days playing games, answering questions, reading celebrity gossip, talking on the phone and counting each agonizing minute that goes by. I am in school and when I'm done, I'll be able to get the job I really want....until then, I suffer with you.

Why can't you quit? After all, it's your life! Most people who dislike their jobs feel undervalued by the people around them. They feel like their ideas and input are not listened to or appreciated. Does that describe your situation?
First, give some serious thought about what you'd like to do with your life, and put a realistic plan in place on how you will go about achieving these goals. Then, have a heart to heart talk with your family, and tell them the truth. If they have your best interests at heart, they will understand and support you.

Actually you can quit.....you just have to be diplomatic about it. I would just explain to you family you would like to experience another feild and "stand on your on" without the family support for a little bit.
See how that works out. Good Luck.

Try to have some fun like doing things that you are not supposed to, that always gets the adrenaline rush going plus, make sure that it is easy to hide whatever you are doing. You dont want to get fired for stupid reasons...
...or when you are bored in your spare time, use it to look for a better and higher paid job

Try to redesign what you do. Enhance your job, be innovative. Why not venture out and find ways to beef up your job responsibilities. Discuss your suggestions for change with the owners and explain your need for more, maybe that will help.

ask to take on more responsibility, this will consume more of your time at work so you won't be bored and then ask for a raise due to the extra work you are performing.
