There are many ways. Abstinence is the most effective.
If you're going to have sex, take the pill, or get the birth control shot. Have your partner use a condom, even if you're on the pill, the shot, or some other form of birth control, because (1) nothing is 100% effective and the "belt and suspenders" approach is a good idea, and (2) the pill and the shot will help prevent pregnancy, but not STDs, so the condom is a good thing until you are completely confident that your partner is not harboring any sort of infectious gremlins in his male parts.

An obvious answer is Don't Have Sex at all. But there are many things you could do to not get pregnant. Don't have unprotected sex - always use a condom. You could get on the birth control pill, the shot, or the patch. You can use spermicides when having sex. I believe there are inter-uterine devices that can be placed inside your vagina to prevent pregnancy. Consult a doctor - they can give you all the answers you need.

If you plan on having sex then be sure to use good quality condoms and store them properly! It's the only safe way to have sex and avoid pregnancy as well as aids and nasty things ;-)
