I already have a B.F.A. in Illustration but after years of marketing myself I am ready for a change. I am currently expecting my first child bringing out my 'calm, family' side. I recently took an intrest in teaching (my family has been trying to get me to do this for years!) but I dont even know the first steps to take to achieve this! I know I would make a fantastic art teacher so any adivice would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

If the university where you rec'd your BFA has an ed department, go talk to them first, or even to the art department. There should be a counselor there who knows what to do (and you may need to talk to several different people until you get the straight scoop) You will probably need 1-2 years of school to get all the education courses out of the way, possibly getting a masters in ed at the same time, but talk to a university ed dept--they do this all the time!
(I will have two 'interns' in my class next fall who are doing an intensive year of course work(they started in summer session I) intern, student teaching and will be ready to get a job come may)

You have to get a teaching credential if you want to teach k-12. If you want to teach college you need to get your masters degree. Contact your local school district and ask for a teaching application. Also keep in mind that teaching requirements vary among states. The info that I just gave you is base on the requirements for the state of California.

You might need to go back to school as a post baccalaureate. This means you can just focus on getting a teaching degree and won't have to spend 4 or 5 years working on it since you already have a degree. You'll need to take your praxis certification tests also. Good luck
