I thought it was quite good. It's like perfect communism. I would hate to live in a world like that. I want to make my own decisions. Even if they are the wrong ones to chose, I want to be the one to make them. I want to see color. I want to have emotions. I want to love my partner. It was horrible that they killed the smaller twin. However, I agree with killing the older people to a point. If the people were aware of the fact that they were going to die and accepted that, then I believe that would be alright.

I had to read it as a summer project for english about 5 years ago. I hated the book. The plot went no-where and it took about 13 chapters to pick up, then the book ended with you wondering, what just happened?
It is definatly on my, 'Never Read Again' list of books.

I really liked the book because it gave an interesting perspective of life. I like the way Jonas shared his thoughts about the past as if experiencing it for the first time. Like when he was experiencing the feeling of seeing the color red, or when he felt mutual attraction to other people.

I personally enjoyed it the 3rd time I read it. The first two times I didn't completely understand it so I tried reading it again and again. I think its an interesting prospective the author took when writing it.

The Giver is interesting to me. It brings out everyone should be an individual and solve their own problems and not go with main stream conformity.
