Yes, this does sound a bit strange to me and I too would be suspicious and a little concerned. I have been in long distance relationships where I would go months sometimes without seeing my boyfriend. When he would come to town or visa versa, I was there and so was he. We could not wait to see each other. I would confront my partner if I were you this is kinda strange behavior. Good luck.
