The Federal Minimum wage is $5.15hrly.

The Democrats have been fighting to raise the national minimum wage to $5.85 an hour. Seemingly a tiny step, but the republicans argue this step would put a great strain on employers.

My feeling is, sure the strain it will put on employers is that they wouldn't be able to offer those cushy six and seven figure salaries to their CEO's!
Small price to pay for a wage that's still well below the poverty level.
