People having bone density problems should do the following:
- consume vitamin D and calcium
- practice weight training. A higher amount of muscle tone strengthens the bones, as the bones become more dense. As you are a woman, there is no much you can do here.
- practice other sports such as running, aerobics, dancing, skating, tennis and similar physical activity.

Calcium is mainly found in:
- milk, cheese, etc.
- mineral water (in bottles)
- some green vegetables

I believe you have Osteopenia, which is a beginning form of Osteoporosis. Osteopenia has no symptoms, because it is only a lower density of minerals in your bones.

There is much information that can be found on the internet how to prevent Osteoporosis.

Good luck

First off, dont look to food to get all you need of you calcium intake. Calcium is one of the hardest minerals for your body to absorb. Next to Iron. Both of the minerals need to be taken away from food and other vitamins and minerals. They compete for absorbtion.

Go to your local health food store and get a GOOD calcium and magensium supplement. Not this stuff you can by at any drug store. Never buy your multivitamins at the same place you can get your motor oil.

Look for a good reputable product. Take more than the required dosage throughout the day. Calcium is not only hard to absorb but easily lost thru everyday activity.

Take your calcium on an empty stomach. Make sure your supplement includes magnesium and vitamin D. You need these other minerals and vitamin for calcium to be absorbed.

Do not worry about kidney stones. Your body has a natural mechanism in place that regulates your calcium. If you have too much, your parathyroid kicks in and gets rid of what you dont need. If you have too little, same thing happens but it takes it from your bones instead.

The older you get , the less calcium is absorbed. Such as aging...sigh. Dont be afraid to take several thousands milligrams a day. Your body will regulate it on its own.

as far as what to eat....I dont worry about getting my calcium intake from food, its far too difficult to try and absorb the calcium from food when its surrounded by other nutrients that compete with it. This is why I take the supplements by themselves, away from food.

I don't know if you'd want to eat these--I personally love them--but eating the soft bones of canned sardines can help with calcium. Cheese is also good with that. Oh, and especially Tums! I personally recommend Tums 'cause I like how they taste, especially the tropical-flavoured ones--and they have lots of calcium. But other than what you already know... there really isn't anything else.

All dairy has calcium. Eat the ones you enjoy the most, sticking with the low fat variates. I've never heard of supplements causing kidney stones. Check that out with your doctor.
