I am Indian and my husband is American and i have asked him this question... how come the US hasnt ever had a female president when so many other countries have had them? Even countries where Americans seems to think women are treated so badly and not as equals.

He says its because of feminism. He says women are so competitive here that they focus on bringing other women down and so they are probably the ones who wont vote for a woman.

I agree that a female doesnt have to be voted in just cos of their gender and that the gender doesnt matter for the candidate. But i do think that it says something when such a powerful country as the US which boasts of equal rights hasnt ever had a female president.

Are you saying that you would elect a female president just because she is female?

They have the same social problems as anywhere else. Why should we vote for someone just because she is female?

We've HAD female Presidential candidates (Shirley Chisholm; Geraldine Ferraro, et al.); we just didn't vote them into office.

As for me, I don't think the sex of an official is important. I wonder why you DO!
