The message of the Bible is man rebels and thinks he can earn God's favor and always falls short. God then reaches out to man and shows man he is forgiven and loved if he will just accept that gift (Jesus) and quit having so much self-centerd pride that he thinks he is either a) Good enough for God on his own; or b) Not in need of salvation.
The other parts you cite... helping your fellow man, looking out for others, etc. etc. are the types of things that should be the RESULT of man being reunitied and at peace with God. A heart that is grateful for God's love and the gift of eternal life begins to desire and act in a gracious way.... towards God and others.
So no, I think there is a bit more to the Bible than what you say... the key message being God's grace to reach out to man through Jesus, because man does not have the ability to live in a manner (sin free and always loving) that is worthy of God.

I'm not sure I understand your question. The entire Bible is a message - all of the stories are in there for a reason. Each story teaches a lesson or gives you more insight. I guess if you removed all of the words from a Bible then, yes, you would have a book full of blank pages, or, in your words, an empty vessle.

Disagree. . . The Bible contains a plethora of knowledge rich in history and fact. The Bible stated of the fact that the earth is a sphere centuries before it was propsed by Columbus. It explains how man came to be, and it also explains God's purpose for man. It gives us the example of Christ and his life on earth gives us a standard by which to live by... a standard that goes beyond just "help your fellow man".

I disagree. Even without those elements, the Bible would still be an important historical document and one of the biggest influences on Western and Middle Eastern culture.
In fact, I think that most of the messages you are suggesting removing are in the New Testament, and there are plenty of Jewish people who think that the scriptures have value without that.
Full disclosure -- I'm an atheist, so others may have contrary opinions.

ah, liberals finally found something to attack Rush Limbaugh for. and it only took you 20 years.
Rush came clean about his painkiller problem. I'm not defending him for having it, but he did come clean about it. And this latest thing, come on. The poor guy is on Viagra. Is that really front page news? Whatever happened to personal property?
At least he was never indicted for lying to investigators about having an affair with an intern. Wait, what was I thinking? That was a private issue and I shouldn't bring it up....

That's basically it.The bible is a group of man-made books with some left out to fit the politics of the time.
The bible was written by politicians to scare people into submission.

Sadly enough, the modern Christian belief system is one of convenience, a pick and chose method of taking from the Gospels just what you need or want to justify your actions and disregarding or demoting to minor significance the rest.
