I have a sister, who is a widow, in her sixties, who is quite wealthy, and has the financial resources to do anything she wants to do, and never has to worry about anything, but herself. She is in good health, as well. Why would she be lonely?

money does not buy you happiness...you could have all the money in the world and be able to buy everything/anything you want...but if you aren't happy with who you are it doesn't matter how much money you have...you will still be miserable...

Are you serious?
Probably her life is going to be easier than someone in abject poverty, but that doesn't mean that she is going to be happy. If a person is lonely then how can money help? She can employ people to be around her, but is it going to make her happy knowing that the only people she has interaction with are there because she is paying them?
I think you should spend some time with her, and encourage her to go out and meet people (she could join a club or something, or do volunteer work so she feels like she is doing something worthwhile).

I have heard it said that what a person needs to be happy is someone to love, and to love them, something to occupy their time, and to make a mark on the world. I don't know how true this is, but I really don't think that you should expect money to make her happy.

Because money cannot buy happiness. My mother is very well off, has anything material wise that anyone could ever want but is married to a jerk and she is totally miserable.

Happiness is not having good looks, possessions or money. Happiness is something truly unique to everyone. To her it could be a good friend to talk about the weather or a beloved pet.

Do I have to knock on your thick skull? Helloooo? You just said she's a widow...that's your answer. She's alone that's why. Everybody needs companionship, especially in old age.

Money doesn't buy happiness.

I know more than a few people who are loaded and still miserable.

THINGS don't make you happy. People don't make you happy. A strong relationship with God will give you happiness and contentment.

she is probably grieving over her husband and even if she wanted to go get another one they might only be after her for her money.
