They are 1000 times apart!
Specifically, there are 1000 microgrammes in a miligramme.
1 Milligramme = 0.001g
1 Microgramme = 0.000001g
This is the same difference as between a kilogramme (1 bag of sugar) and a tonne (a very, very heavy shopping bag.)
