I really like Neutrogena's Build-a-Tan. If you have really fair skin, I really wouldn't recommend using a self-tanner because even though a lot of the new tanners aren't as bad anymore, they'll still give you an orange tint. The best however, if you are paler, is one of the daily moisturizers with a small amount of self-tanner in them, like Jergens Natural Glow. They come in three different shades for Fair, Medium, or medium/tan skin tones.

I have very fair skin, so any mediocre fake tan shows up streaky on my skin. The best ones I've found and I use are the Neutrogena ones:
Build-a-Tan Gradual Sunless Tanning Lotion (They also have one just for the face)
and this one is even better:
MicroMist Tanning Sunless Spray - no hassle, just a quick spray. It doesn't spray on splotchy either.

I like Avene self-tanner because it is good for sensitive skin. It gives me a subtle tan, not yellow or orange at all.
