l = w + 12

P = 2(L + W)

92 = 2((W + 12) + W)
92 = 2(W + 12 + W)
92 = 2(2W + 12)
92 = 4(W + 6)
23 = W + 6
W = 17

L = W + 12
L = 17 + 12
L = 29

Width = 17 yards
Length = 29 yards

If we designate w as the width in yards and l as the length in yards, then we know that...

--- w + l + w + l = 2w + 2l = 92 (as that's what a perimeter is)
--- w + l = 46

We also know that...

--- w + 12 = l (from the above information)

Substitute w+12 into l in the first equation...

--- w + (w + 12) = 46
--- 2w + 12 = 46
--- 2w = 34
--- w =17

The width is 17 yards, and the length would be 17+12 = 29 yards. If you really wanted to check it, you could punch 17+17+29+29 into a calculator and the answer would be 92.

Assume the width equals x. Then the length must be (x+12). Now since the perimeter is given as 92 yards, and we know that perimeter for a rectangle equals twice length + twice width, therefore 92 = 2x + 2(x+12).
Therefore, 92 = 4x + 24.
4x = 92-24 = 68.
Hence x = 68/4 = 17
So, the width is 17 yards, and the length is 17+12=29 yards.

since 2x +2y = Perimeter of a rectangle; (where x=width; y=length).
In this case y = x + 12;
substituting: 2x + 2(x+12) = 92yds;
2x + 2x + 24 = 92 yds;
4x + 24 = 92yds;
4x = 92-24;
4x = 68; therefore x = 68/4;
x = 17. y= 17 + 12. Therefore width is 17yds; length is 29yds.

Let W = width.
Then length = 12 + W.
Then perimeter = length+length+width+width=
92 = (12+W)+(12+W)+W+W.
92 = 24 + 4W
68 = 4W
W = 17
L= 29.

W = L+12

P = 2(L + W) P=96

92 = 2 ( L + L + 12)
92 = 2( 2L+12)
92 = 4L + 24
92 - 24 = 4L
68 = 4 L
17 = L

17 + 12 = 29
SIDES ARE 29,29,17,17

2(w+12) + 2w = 92
4w + 24 = 92
4w = 68
w = 17

mean L = w + 12 = 29

check: 17+17+29+29 = ? = 92 yep

17 yards and 29 yards.

17*4 = 68 + 24 = 92

so

(17 * 2 ) + (29*2) = 92 yards

okay here's what we know: (x is length, y is width)
p = 92.
x = 12y
2x+2y = 92

solve it like a system...
2(12y) + 2y = 92
26y = 92
y = appx. 3.7

x = 12y so...
x = 12(3.7)
x = 44.4

so the length is 44.4 and the width is 3.7
hope this is right

UGH!!!!
now i see that i read the freaking problem wrong!!!
time wasted. oh well. some of the other answers might be right...
