Having been to Saginaw, MI, I know what a heart breaker it is to leave the place, especially in winter. I have to assume you went as far away from Michigan as you could go, probably to granola land, because it's at least warm there.
The good part about it is that if you were hitching a ride these days, you would have made it into some crazed maniac's clutches. It's good to reminisce about days when you could just hitch a ride without worrying too much.
