Real Punk Rock was a late 70s thing. Sex Pistols suck. They couldn't play, couldn't sing. They were formed in the exact same way N*Sync and the Backstreet Boys were formed. By a business man who wanted to find young men who looked the part. It's true.
Real Punk Rock started in New York City with the New York Dolls and then later, The Ramones. The Ramones are awesome, always funny, charming, took a formula and ran with it, always making it a little bit different and always familiar. Check out some early Talking Heads, yeah, they are more New Wave/Alternative, but I think you'll be surprised.
