Use a firewall, keep your antivirus software up to date. Use several Anti-spyware solutions. I use SpyBot Search & Destory.

When you connect to a file sharing website or service, watch everything that is being transferred. Do not walk away. Close the program when you are done.

Run your anti-virus and anti-spyware scans very regularly. If you get any pop-up that you do not expect, stop everything, use the X in the top right corner on all windws. Then start running all of your scans. You might even DiSCONNECT or DISABLE your internet connection. Clean things up right away.

Good luck

It is always risky to use file sharing program as it gets data from all sorts of unprotected boxes. Just make sure that your antivirus and anti worm applications are updated and your windows has all the latest patches applied...

I've had no trouble in eight years... Limewire's canny and easy for the odd song but for the bigger stuff I use Bit Torrent and get my torrents from Suprnova.....
