I've read some answers of people, justifying the whitehouse spying on it's citizens, saying that it's necessary to fight off the terrorists. Does your fear of a terrorist attack justify giving up your rights?

Farkas419 would like to give up her rights. I guess the previous wars fighting for those freedoms don't mean anything to her.

ahhh, Farkas, now I understand where your brainwashing came from. You HAD to give up your rights to live there. So, no skin off your back. You were already INFORMED that this would be a condition of living there. Nice try...

I can't believe it's true. Youguys say it isn't fear, and in the same breath, you say it is because of the threat of terrorists, THAT IS FEAR. How sad, the Bush administration has convinced you lemmings that the terrorists will get you, if you question, disagree, vote for something BESIDES the terrorist attacks.

the right to privacy. That is the one under attack. If I make a reservation at La Shish, and the owner is a suspected terrorist, then maybe I am under surveillance. Not only are you going to give the administration Carte Blanche to violate your guaranteed freedoms, but you are going to trust them that NO mistakes will be made? Incredible.

You know....dems are not saying you can't spy on terrorists. Not a single dem is saying that. What they are saying is you should get a COURT ORDER to do it...you know like the law says that you should.

Why can't this administration just do things the way the founders intended? Checks and balances?

George is not a king. One of the jobs of congress and of the courts is to make sure he does not have too much power. Why won't he let them do their job?

Did you hear about the terrorist attack that was foiled because of FBI surveillance, Heidi? Yeah, they were going to bomb the New York subway system.
You're right, to hell with surveillance!
Yup, Heidi, you're absolutely right. I just want to give up my rights to talk to terrorists all I want and not have my phone tapped without a warrant. How horrible!
BTW, my phone has already been tapped and IS tapped because I live on a military post overseas. Everyone's phones are tapped over here, and we know it. But it doesn't scare me. I don't do anything that could get me in (much) trouble. At least, I'm not involved with al-Qaeda.
Brainwashing? I'm not military, my husband is...and he's not brainwashed either. You just never think about the possibility that maybe, just maybe, a little bit of surveillance (not on every day Americans like you or others like you), but on those who have terrorist ties, is not a bad thing. They gave up their rights when they conspired against the US. Period. That would be known as TREASON, because this is wartime.
And actually, no, I didn't know that they were going to tap our phones here. I didn't really notice until we'd been here a few months. So yeah, it bothered me that someone might be listening for a couple minutes here and there. But under the circumstances, it's fine.
This isn't the first time that surveillance has been used in times of war.

We all live in fear, and we can all die at any time for any reason, but we still do the things that we like to do. If we were to all live in fear all the time, then we would have no life, and all we would do is wait for our own demise. The fact is, we cannot forget about terrorist acts, but we can't live in fear all our lives just because one thing happened. Our freedoms are given to us, and we have to take them and use them, and leave all other fears behind us. Just because the White House can't find the terrorists doesn't mean they're out there looking right now at us and figuring out a better way to put us in fear. Terrorists instill fear, and they us that fear against us.

It's not fear, it's common sense. If the government can prevent the loss of thousands of lives by listening in on certain phone calls, then it's a worthy cause. Remember, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about. The ones who seem to be the most upset by this are the ones who engage in illegal activitys. Freedom of privacy isn't a true freedom, it's a privelage that can be revoked when public safety is at stake.I haven't given up any rights, I still carry on my life exactly as I have for decades. The only thing that has changed is now there's a very real threat of domestic terrorism, and my government is doing everything in its power to prevent it. What kind of person puts their own self above the safety of the public? LIBERALS, that's who.

I have not lost any rights, nor have you. I am not "afraid" of a terrorist attack, but I despise evil people and injustice, and one of the ways for our nation to prevent future attacks from those who are in our country is to monitor who is calling specific overseas phone numbers. During WWII, every Japanese American was rounded up and sent to internment camps, regardless of any evidence of guilt, could you imagine if this administration tried that with Arab Americans? The government is not listening in on random phone conversations of ordinary citizens to find out who is a child molester or who is dealing drugs. I don't understand what freedoms you feel you have been stripped of.

ABSOLUTELY not never should any american for the sake of agreement with the leader of this nation ever say i have nothing to hide so go right ahead and search my home listen to my calls and check through my bank accounts.
THIS is the scarriest thing to happen in american history ever.THE people suffering from an authority figure complex need to get over themselves and look at the reality of the situation before condeming us all to the same fate .

Heck no. As Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who would give up essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty nor security." He's right, liberty is all a person truly has. Liberty is when you own yourself, and nobody has a claim on your will. The greatest fault in American culture today is that people don't respect our liberties, they don't fight for their liberties, and as you point out, are willing to trade their liberties to the government for essentially nothing in return except further invasions into our personal lives.Wake up people, and take back your rights, and leave the rights of others alone.

1. I am not afraid of Terrorist Attacks. USA has a better army anyway.

Giving up my rights? He11 NO. I wouldn't give up my rights for some retarded 3rd world country.

America has fought COUNTLESS WARS FOR OUR FREEDOM, MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DIED, i'm not giving up my rights because I know that the soldiers who died for my rights would want me to die free. SO I WILL DIE FREE rather then DIE WITHOUT MY RIGHTS.

And if ANY, terrorist, tries to take away my rights, I would shoot his a$$ up so bad he'd look like swiss cheese. I'm staying a free man fear can't take that away. So with that said, oorah, i'm out.

Absolutely not! And I am a New Yorker who knew some of the people who died at the WTC on 9/11.

I look at it this way: Ben Franklin's wisdom vs. George Bush's "wisdom".

No contest.

Those who are FOR spying on American citizens and taking away even one of our freedoms are the very definition of UNAMERICAN!

No, absolutely not. Terrorism works by making people afraid to leave their homes and live their lives; this kind of thing only adds to it. And if the terrorists "hate freedom", let's give 'em something to hate!
