This is a big part of the reason that we are having so many problems with kids. A lot of parents seem to be of the mind that their children can do no wrong. They will defend their actions even as they are watching the kids do something that is wrong. Part of it is the divorces, the parents do not want to be seen as the "bad" parent, but the same problem exists with normal families. I do know that my generation had a lot to do with it. I saw a lot of situations where the kids were misbehaving and it was funny and the parents were laughing. My folks generation, they would punish first and laugh about it later when they could retell the story. There appear to be a lot of families where the children are running the family. This may be a big cycle and in a generation or two things will tilt the other way.

Most parents aren't raising their kids their practicly raising themselves these days. A lot of situations have changed the way people parent due to working parents and if their two both work. This leaves kids to fend on their own. Then kids lack the attention they need due to this. To top it all off some parents are just rude and ignorant acting themselves and their childen only reflect them.

Yes, I know what you mean. When I was raised, my parent will spank me so hard if I break the rules. I used to discipline my children with taking away their goods and a spanking if deserved it.
But today it is so hard to raised a child, specially in schools. To many kids disrespect their teachers and the teachers can't do nothing about it, cause other wise, they will have the parents beating them up, or bringing them to court.
So I really don't know where this society is going to end.

I see this a lot, and being the parent of young kids, I try to take them out of the situation before I discipline them. But I don't let bad behavior go, anywhere.

They view it as a personal attack on themselves. They feel like they need to defend themselves and their parenting-it's a matter of pride. They are not doing themselves or their children any favors by displaying this behavior.

Misguided parents want to be their child's best friend so they will defend them when they need a pat on the back or lower.

Parents get BENT because a stranger has commented on their child's behavior. They know it is a reflection on them as parents and they take it personally.

i think of the government is to blame for being so strict on mum and dad spanking their infants. My technology did no longer act like that because of the fact we knew we'd get our butts crushed. The worst is whilst a newborn is screaming interior the branch shop and the be sure won't take them outdoors till they close up, why could desire to everyone could desire to hearken to the brat? i'm in u.s..
