it's when you're falling asleep when suddenly you feel like you're being held down or choked, can't breath or talk! (more like scream!!)

When it first began happening to me years ago, I'd feel paralyzed and a sense of panic because it seemed there's someone else in the room with me, even though I could not see them. There's also a loud buzzing sensation in my head while this is happening. This has happened to me so often, that I do not often feel the sense of panic anymore since nothing bad has ever happened to me. I've actually begun to enjoy the intense sensation when it happens. Since I no longer struggle to end the episode, it seems to last just about as long as I'd like it to last, but that loud electric buzzing sensation in my head does give me a small level of concern that I might be doing some damage by letting it go on for several minutes sometimes.

during your REM period of sleep (which I believe occurs about 3-4 times during your sleep cycle), your body becomes paralyzed. This is also when your dreams occur.

Also, my best friend experienced something very similar. Have you ever heard of an Incubus (not the band - but it's a demon who rapes girls in their sleep). She felt in her dream, a male on top of her holding her down. Then after much struggling, she woke up. Like, she jumped up in a bed, and saw a blonde woman standing in her doorway. Then she blinked and looked again, and she was gone. It was some really freaky ****.

Also, I can't scream in dreams! I have dreams where I'm trying to run away, and I can barely even run. And i try to scream, but no noise comes out! it's scary

I have experienced night terrors where I have had the most brutal nightmares imaginable and have got out of bed and tried to hide in the corner of the room. I tend to get up and move around or have been known to get knives from the kitchen and act like I am defending myself from being attacked. It usually only happens when I am really stressed in every day life, I haven't had one for a few months now.

Everyone feels them sometimes... When it happens to me, at first I feel panic, but then I calm myself by chanting (praying) in my dreams, and I instantly relax and stop the terror. The fact that I realize what is going on in a dream and have the ability to voluntarily start action (praying), has to do with lucid dreaming - a practice very useful for keeping your consciousness while asleep.

Yeah, it's like your brain is functioning but you cant move your body. You may even feel like something really bad is happening around you and you cant do anything about it. I've been told that you are in a state of dreaming, but you are semi-awake. It is creepy though.

Yes! It's so scary, it scared me so bad I cried and didn't fall back asleep...I thought I died because I felt my soul leaving my body. I hate it.
