Job applications say have you been "convicted" and surely I haven't. I am facing merely charges for something that should not have even gotten so big. But anyway, I am having trouble finding employment because apparently it says PENDING FELONIES on my background checks, what should I do to find work? My kids are depending on me?

Well, if you cared about your kids, perhaps you wouldn't have put yourself into a situation where you would be charged with felonies.

If you have felonies on your record, hardly any employers will hire you. You'll probably have to spend the rest of your life working temporary jobs

FIrst of all, leyt me say that deathbear3's answer was not only unhelpful but uncalled for.

You cannot change the past, and being scolded for something you have done when you are trying to better yourself is never helpful.

There are a few viable options. You can start with something menial, like McDonalds work or similar. Become friendly with your bosses and make an impression. WHen you try and get a new job have your boss write you a letter of recommendation and even make a personal phone call to your potential employer. Blow them away with that and a really positive attitude, both of which go a long way.

Another option is called Labor Ready, which is a place you can go work doing manual labor that has job assignments daily. You get paid the same day that you work and often times working for a few days in a row for the same company at Labor Ready can lead to being hired with that company.

Ebay is another option, but it requires either a skill that you can use to make a product to sell, or good pricing skills to go to yard sales and purchase items low and resell them high.

I wish you the best of luck, it's an awful feeling not knowing where your rent money is coming from, or if you will have it at all. I can't imagine what that would be like with children as well. I hope you find something soon.

I hate to tell you this..but almost all states are AT WILL employment. ie they can fire you for ANYTHING..and on the inverse, they can NOT hire you for near anything. The discrimination laws are very powerful and enforceable..but their scope is also kind of narrow. You cannot be descriminated against because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age or disability. Title Vll of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and some amendments to same since guarantee those rights...but not much more.
Your best bet is to put your best foot forward and answer truthfully..but as a short note to the field of entry regarding the felonies such as "would like to discuss".
In several years as a facilty manager who did hiring and firing..if someone made a note like that on an application..I'd hear them out. I'd hate to throw a decent person under the bus for something stupid or something that could be explained away to my satisfaction. A "bonifide" HR type person would say (an I'm sure we'll see those remarks on here) that I'm full of it and blah, blah, blah. However...if the person reviewing your application is any kind of a human being with any degree of compassion and is SINCERELY looking for a good person with potential then he or she will do them, and in the long term their company, the service of a sitdown and a discussion. I'll cite one example then move on. If Duane Chapman (Dog the Bounty Hunter) had to fill out an application to get his current job and filled in "served x number of years for 1st degree murder" who would hire him. Not many probably. BUT..if they said..well..I'll sit down..talk and see what his story is..they'd have gone and hired the "World's Best Bounty Hunter". I'm not a huge "Dog" fan but credit goes where it's due and he's done a LOT of good since he got on the straight and narrow.
I'm rambling now..which I'm great for..but keep your head high and just keep plugging. If the felonies are as you say..and no big deal..someone will recognise that and give you a shot. If they are a big deal though..and you are a badass...well..then get comfy in your bed..you made it.

I have a felony too. The most important thing to remember is to tell the truth. Your employer will do a background check and if he finds that you have lied, you won't be hired. If there are extenuating circumstances, you may want to write them down. If you get an interview and they ask you why you have felonies pending, you don't want your circumstances to seem like a lie, so I would suggest preparing an accurate written statement concerning your arrest and your pending conviction.

The way you asked the question reveals the root of your challenge--how you think! In your question, you positioned yourself as a "victim" of circumstances. Here are the circumstances, as you listed them, in order of priority:
1. Merely charges for something that should not have gotten so big.
2. An employer who fired me before I was convicted, contrary to the question on his own application.
3. Potential employers who won't hire me because "it says PENDING FELONIES on my background checks.
Consider this from a different perspective. Your former employer might have fired you because, from that person's perspective, the potential risk of having you associated with that company IF you are convicted was to higher price to pay. Now consider what potential employers might think: "If an employer who knew him was unwilling to risk the continued relationship, why should I take the risk with someone I don't know? Actually, here's an even more likely scenario in reference to potential employers: "I can find someone with equal or even greater qualifications, without the potential risk of a conviction. Why should I hire him, train him and pay him, when it's possible that before he bcomes profitable to my firm, he's convicted? Certainly, you can consider that line of reasoning to be unfair, but as the late Ray Charles was prone to say: "It is what it is."
Well, now consider a second important question: Are you innocent? Now a third question: Can your innocence be established so the prosecuting attorney cannot prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt?
No matter what those answers are, I believe your response to this issue must be the same--whether you are innocent or guilty.
I suggest the following:
1. Immediately launch a homebased business that you can work now to begin generating immediate income.
2. Work closely with the mother of your children so she can operate this business successfully, in the event that you're convicted.
3. Sit down with your family and apologize to them for dragging them into this difficulty. Lay out your proposed solution, and help each of them to see the important supportive role each of them plays.
4. Budget your revenue stream from your homebased business activities so that you have two types of savings account. One to tide your family over in emergencies, should you be convicted and sentenced to active prison time. A second savings account should be set aside to be sent to you in reasonable portions in the same event.
5. After move to solve the immediate challenge of taking care of your family, then sit down and deal with the thinking flaws that put you in this predictament in the first place. Resolve to change your thinking so that this never happens again.
As you can probably see, this proposed solution works whether you're innocent or guilty, whether you are acquitted or convicted, whether you get probation or a prison sentence.
Give it a shot!
Have a nice day

The other poster has no Idea what they are talking about. If you are indeed guilty people make mistakes and change.unfortunatly there are stupid people that will try to make you feel worthless. This causes resentment and a feeling of hopelessness along with low self esteem,This also causes people to turn back to crime because of this treatment from society. It is a sad reality but you are really in charge of your own destiny. You cant change society but you can control your own destiny.
Start your own business, try to have your record sealed as part of the plea agreement if you take one. Express remorse to the judge and explain to him or her that you realize your mistake and do not want to make your family pay for it.Explain to the judge that you want to conform to society and do not want this mistake to follow you for the rest of your life.
make sure your lawyer conveys this to the judge. There are many jobs that do not require or ask for backround checks. I personally know of police officers that have made mistakes and then became cops.

I recently came across a very exciting way to make money using the Internet.
1. Here are some of the details. FreeLife International is a 10-year old company that is considered a leader in the field of Health and Wellness products. In fact, FreeLife is the youngest company ever featured on the cover of Success magazine in its over 100 year history. FreeLife sells its products using a concept known as referral marketing. Instead of paying advertisers millions of dollars to advertise their products, they instead pay that money out to thousands of FreeLife members for simply recommending their health and wellness products to other people. And it’s working very well. In fact, they have members earning anywhere from a few extra dollars per months to $20,000 per month and more.
Let me tell you a few other things about FreeLife International:
Their products are unique and exclusive. Their nutritional products are developed by Dr. Earl Mindell, the author of the greatest selling nutritional book ever, The Vitamin Bible. He has several other best sellers and FreeLife has the exclusive marketing right to all of his products.
FreeLife’s top money earners earn on average FIVE FIGURE monthly incomes. And the best part is that FreeLife’s money earners come from all walks of life. We have former truck drivers, housewives, Harvard MBAs, and physicians just to name a few who are earning significant part-time and full-time income with FreeLife.
And it’s never been easier. With FreeLife's Website, you can begin to make money right away, from the comfort of your home. You also have a home page that you can use to refer people that you know who are interested in getting healthy and making money. It’s really that simple.
The sooner you join the sooner you’ll get paid. Just go to www.awesomeberry.com and click on the Make Money tab to see for yourself. If you have any questions, please let me know. If not, I’ll follow-up in a few days to see what you thought.
Sincerely,
Alexis T.

properly a minimum of you end maximum of them and were no longer fired. i'd say that seems better, if I actual ought to %. one. in spite of the indisputable fact that, i do not quite imagine your behaviour has finished you any favours in any respect. you could't purely bypass round quitting jobs prompt. It shows disrespect on your organization (no matter if there became no comprehend, you should nevertheless conceal your a** even as it is composed of a job) and no company is going to settle on to threat being left contained in the lurch by technique of someone who's so impulsive. once you do get yet another interest, purely be positive to tutor somewhat better restraint even as it comes time to end so that you'll start up to freshen up your resume. no longer some thing about any interest is continually interesting, and it sounds like it truly is time you start up putting up with many of the crap. there'll always be crap, no remember what interest you're doing.

Be upfront and explain to the employers what it's all about. PENDING FELONIES can probably look kind of scary to a potential empoyer unless they know to expect it. The only way they can know to expect it is if you inform them of it upfront.
