The very best thing about being a grown-up is that you no longer have to put up with people yelling at you. If this is a dream job, the one that will get you your movie debut or the million dollar bonus, then quietly endure. Otherwise tell her to shove it up her @ss.
I am not being flippant. Life's too short to put up with that sort of thing.

GET OUT NOW. RUN, DO NOT WALK!
In my humble experience, you can never do enough to make an unhappy boss happy. If you do good work, in great quantity, and have an excellent reputation in the company for knowing what you are doing, it will still never be enough.
Some people are just very critical and/or insecure. These are personal issues going on inside another person's head. You will never infiltrate that or make any meaningful change there. Your best outcome is that you will grind away many years at your own personal expense and emotional cost to make things better, but progress will be meager. You will grind away the best years of your life suffering for nothing but meaningless money.
So, I shout again: RUN!!!!!
Next time, quietly arrange to speak with potential co-workers at the next job interview. Speak with them alone and make them comfortable to share such things with you about the job. Do this very smoothly, or they won't want to hire you.

Hi,
You must be such a sweet, responsible secretary for a boss!
How about talking to a boss just like this when he has a coffee break time?
(at the door) *knock, knock*
"May i come in?"
"you always work so hard, you're so eager to work for our company. I'm super lucky working here with you and I'm very proud of you, 'cause you are the best boss in the world!"
"Here's your coffee, Sir. Please take a break another 9 minutes. I know you work minutes by minutes, I'll take care of you and handle this matter another 9 minutes to make you have a rest and smile. Well, Sir, you'll be able to get relaxed for another 9 minutes, not to yell for the very next minutes, OK? :-)"
I'm not sure it's OK or not for a boss. Please take it as one of the very positive (?) ideas:) Good luck!
I can say, your boss has the best secretary in the world! :-)
Cheers!!

Sadly, there's not much you can do about that, and you should definitely not have to take that kind of abuse.
I've got a boss that's very detail oriented to the point of micromanagement and being OCD. I've got to constantly assure him that I've got things under control and to please just let me handle it.
that's nowhere near having a boss that yells all the time, but it does get frustrating. Depending on the work environment, you may be able to talk to his manager/boss about the problem.
Good luck!

Yeah I don't think you can make someone like that happy. I worked for a really gripy boss and you couldn't make her happy. I don't know if you can make any boss totally happy some just mouth about it more.

Candy. Shove an entire snickers down his/her throat just as the yelling begins. I promise you, the person will be pissed at first, but once that chocolaty peanut flavor hits their taste buds, it's all smooth sailing from there.

A grump is a grump! Don't try and kill yourself to get this person to smile. They possibly have a miserable personal life. Just do your job and if necessary, look for another job. But always be happy and smile. People always welcome that in the long run.

most will tell you to quit,
but if you like the work, and in general like your job then you'll have to (and really SHOULD) put the jerk in his/her place.
tell him to stop the yelling like a child and start giving a little more respect, its unprofessional, unbecoming and you can start doing it too, if he doesnt stop.
