Only if their pitching continues, which is unlikely, and they add a high OBP guy like Abreu, which is also unlikely.
Bold Prediction: Sorry Motor City fans, the Tigers will NOT make the Playoffs. Coming out of the AL - Yankees win the East, Angels win the West, White Sox win the Central & the Wild Card - Red Sox.

Where does someone believe the Sox are not looking to improve? If one of the starters (presumably Garcia or Vasquez) is traded, it will be for relief help and/or a center fielder. As you only use 4 pitchers in the playoffs, one of the starters was going to get left out anyway. They also want to eventually move McCarthy into the rotation.
As for the Tigers holding them off, White Sox starters need to improve dramatically, and I don't believe Detroit can continue to pitch at the level that they are. It's going to be neck-and-neck, but I do see Chicago eventually getting the division with Detroit as the wild card.
Which means either the Red Sux or the Spankmes are out of the playoffs. Hopefully both.

It will all boil down to these 13 remaining games against each other (beginning tonight).
The team with the most wins will likely win the Central, while the other takes the wild card.
Either way you look at at, THE TIGERS WILL GO TO THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR!
Will they win The Central? They could.
If The Tigers play .500 ball the rest of the season that is 97 wins.
Good enough for the wild.
I think they win 100 and are Central Division Champions!
Our pitching and hitting and defense WILL NOT (I REPEAT) WILL NOT FALL APART!
We have such a talented staff (Verlander, Minor, Maroth. Bonderman, Robertson, Zumaya, Rodney, and Rodgers) that it would be hard not to win.
I challenge all of you who dont think The Tigers will win to a wager.

I believe they will. They have a very pivotal series with the Sox beginning today, and this will be huge for whichever team that wins it. The Tigers can seriously hurt the Sox wih a sweep or taking two, but if the Sox sweep or take two, they're right back in the hunt. A lot is at stake with this series, and I'm pulling for the Tigers.

I myself think its definitely possible. The White Sox pitching just isn't the same as it was a year ago. Don't get me wrong, their still one of the best in the AL, but if things continue the way they're going now, the Tigers will win the division, IMO.

If their pitching holds up they have a good chance. However most of the Tigers are having career years, and they haven't had any injuries so far...that will be the most important fact, if they can stay injury free and continue their career seasons. Last year the White Sox lost their #1 reliever, and for periods their 3rd baseman (Crede) and left fielder (Podsednik) for periods and had the team depth to over come those setbacks. Just FYI, Kenny Rogers is a 1st half pitcher, he needs to keep up those 1st half numbers if the Tigers are to have a chance.

Not sure if the Tigers can hang on, but even if they have a .500 record for the rest of the season they'll still have around 92 wins, which should be plenty to get them into the playoffs. This next Detroit-Chicago series is really going to show whether Detroit has the stuff to beat Chicago down the stretch and in the playoffs.

I think Tigers can do this. They have been consistent with their playing this season and the big shocker as well,so I say Tigers will win their division and White Sox might get a wild card.

I think the White Sox will regroup and eventually win the division. But the Tigers are for real and it wouldn't shock me if they did hold on and take 1st place.

i pick The Tigers to win. If that occurs remains considered. Cleveland and Detroit will be decrease to and fro some thing of the season, yet i quite do imagine Detroit has the better pitching team, and a truly better offense. Detroit will (with somewhat of success) take the dep. by technique of one million sport. in spite of the indisputable fact that...you could't DISOCUNT THE MINNESOTA TWINS! They understand a thanks to win ballgames. inspect very last 365 days, The Twins were 11 video games on the ASB and ended up triumphing the dep. on the perfect day of the season. Cleveland will likely take the wild card, yet as I stated Minnesota will make it intesting. Minnesota is in Detroit for the subsequent to very last sequence of the universal season, and which will ascertain how Minnesota finishes.
