YES! We just moved here from Connecticut in December. The cost of living is so much better. An example...we sold our 65 year old single story 2 bedroom 1000sf ranch home there for $250,000, and we bought a brand new 2 story 4 bedroom 2800sf house here for $165,000.....COME ON! That's almost $100,000 for something more than twice the size...in a nice neighborhood...My husband makes the same salary as he did in CT, however I get paid crap here, as a nurse in CT I made $23.00/h, here I was offered a job for $14.50/h......almost $10/h less.....but things are cheaper here, gas is over $3 there and with state taxes and what not, it works out better here....the biggest benefit...NO SNOW!

From what I've heard, it's a nice place to live with a great cost of living. Housing is Texas is very affordable but property taxes are very high. With that being said, there isn't a state income tax and property taxes are suppose to be cut by 1/3 in the next 2 years. However, people have argued that counties will now just raise your property appraisal.
To answer your question, San Antonio is a good place to live. It has a good cost of living and a diverse community.

If you have to live in Texas, S.A. is a great place... Austin is beautiful, too.
The cost of living there is great! I live in San Francisco where the prices are higher than anywhere, so when I visited S.A. I was surprised for such a large city, it's very affordable... Anyone can own a house there. Brand new houses, just being built start at like $80,000... for where I'm from that is so so cheap.
S.A. is very resourceful, too. All the shops and dining you can imagine, airports, amusement parks, everything.
If I was forced to pick somewhere in Texas to live, I guess it would have to be there... I am just so spoiled by this Cali weather that there is no way I would ever leave...regardless of the expense!
Live in San Francisco or in the CA Bay Area if you can!

SA is a great place to live. You'll have the great nightlife in downtown, especially on the Riverwalk. (I recommend Howl at the Moon for 'live' music). The history behind the town is one of the oldest in the US with the Alamo a favorite spot to visit.
As for the cost of living... it really depends on where you are coming from? The cost of living is not as expensive as Austin, but it can get pricey on the North side of town. But, the homes are larger and the neighborhoods are some of the best and friendliest in Texas. If you are living in DC or LA, then the cost of living is going to be so cheap, after you sell your home in one of these cities, then you can buy your home, in cash, and probably get a job at the Wal-Mart as a greeter for spending cash. Now, if you are moving from somewhere like Houston, Chicago, or Fargo, then the cost of living is going to be a bit on the pricy side if you want to live in a nice area. If you really don't care, then you will be able to make it.
The heat during the summertime is unbearable. You are going to experience some of the hottest summers, ever. San Antonio is almost in the middle of Texas, which is almost in the desert... So, just make sure that you car, home, and work have A/C. If not, then you will not be able to make it. The winters are mild, and there is no snow... So, if you are moving from the North, make sure that you get rid of your snow blower and snow tires. You can keep one or two 'big' jackets, but not too much of the winter stuff. (My dad called me when DC was having winter storms, saying that he was in shorts and a shirt doing the lawn... and he lives in Houston)
You can beat the summer heat by going to Canyon Lake and tubing down the Guadalupe River (A very popular place for everyone in the area, just avoid July 4th weekend). That area is very nice and secluded, but only a few minutes from San Antoino.

i liked it there , living is very cheap . I had a 2 bed 2 bath apartment for 650 month . It was a good part of town lose to 281 and 1604 . It is also a great city to have to commute in , once you know your way around there are a lot of roads you can take to skip traffic . And the 410 loop is genious , it is a loop around the entire city , you can get anywhere from it . And don't forget the best basketball team in the nba is there

San Antonio is a little Mexico. If you have a problem with that, I wouldn't recommend living there.
