Republicans and Democrats have turned our political system into a sham - nothing more than a lottery where 'winner takes all'. They auction themselves off to the highest bidders by accepting bribes (which they call campaign contributions) and by the time they get elected they have become nothing more than common prostitutes.
In a desperate attempt to get re-elected and remain in office for as long as they're alive, they slander their opponents and use every dirty, underhanded trick in the book to stay in office and acquire more power.
What can we do about it? Voting is no longer an option. Elect crooked Republicans and all you've done is throw out crooked Democrats. In fact, politicians don't want us to vote because it could increase their chances of being defeated.

It's time for Americans to get off the couch, put down the remote and DEMAND our country back! We have to stop worrying about maxxed-out credit cards; $3.00-a-gallon fuel for our $60,000 USVs; Britney Spears' love life; Jacko's pedophilia; professional landscaping for our $300,000 houses; "low prices - everyday" at WalMart for junk we don't need; and the latest rankings of our favorite baseball team.
We're like lobsters in a pot of lukewarm water. Only when the water starts to boil will we scream in agony over our own apathy. Meanwhile, politicians distract us with stupid non-binding resolutions about flag burning and gay marriages instead of doing the people's work they were elected to do. As long as we allow them to, they will enrich themselves by continuing to suck off the taxpayers' teat.
A Revolution is brewing. So as our sleazy politicians keep on slandering their opponents and giving themselves automatic pay increases, they'd better keep one eye open: AMERICANS ARE MAD AS HELL , AND THEY'RE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY LONGER! -RKO-

Just sit back and enjoy the ride. You could make a difference if you wanted to. All you have to do is vote. But is it really worth it? Almost all politicians are the same. Devious and diabolical. But if you honestly think that one politician could make a difference, could make the world a better place, vote for him. This is a matter of opinion, not a matter of votes. Well, in a way it is a matter of votes. But if you think that it's right, do it.

What we should do is ask our politicians to create laws against slander and "sham" infomercials, where paid actors talk bad about other people. For example, in the "swift boat" ads against John Kerry, one guy said who had said he was great 10 years ago, suddenly changed his mind and said he was a "coward". Please. People who don't know about politics and don't pay attention (i.e. stupid people, namely Republicans) can't filter out the truth from the misinformation. We really need to have our politicians clean up how elections are run, and how they misinform people about the other candidate. Spin sucks. The "not vote" answer is clearly wrong. If you are really fed up, try creating your own political party or supporting third parties that would most definitely love the chance to improve our lives. The most important thing is not to give up!!!

Here's the trouble as I see it:
The only way to discourage negative campaigning is to not vote for the individual or group who uses this tactic. However, if all groups are using this tactic, that leaves you voting for no one. Not voting means that you have no say in your own goverment, thereby allowing governmental officials to take actions that you don't approve of, such as negative campaigning. (Although, on the broad spectrum of things that politicians take inappropriate action on, campaign styles are pretty inconsequential.)
You could always run for public office yourself, setting a good example of a well-run campaign!

Nothing. the phrase "crooked as a politician" is out there for a reason. Additionally, trying to vote for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil...why 'choose' either one?

They all do it to a certain extent. Everyone is responsible for choosing who they think is the best person for the job. If you cant research your candidate and opponent to see which one is more full of sh*t then the other that is your fault. I do my homework so I don't care if they a call each other SOB because I fill find out the truth. That is what a reasonable voter does.

They don't much to impress me either. I think we need a new political party which practises a different kind of politics.
