"where did you get that"? when giving compliments. Why? Are you REALLY going to go there? It bothers me to have an individual me how much she likes something a am wearing or have and to follow it up with "where did you get that" and/or "how much was it"? Firstly its tacky to do so and secondly, you have NO intention of going there. Do we want to be twins? Are you going to spend the $$$? Or are you just plain NOSEY?
I'm venting this morning!

You chicks are funny, but to Meriiam Webster down there--"check the dictionary"
SYLLABICATION: first·ly
PRONUNCIATION: fûrstl
ADVERB: In the first place; to begin with.
USAGE NOTE: It is well established that either first or firstly can be used to begin an enumeration: Our objectives are, first (or firstly), to recover from last year's slump. Any succeeding items should be introduced by words parallel to the form that is chosen, as in first . . . second . . . third or firstly . . . secondly . . . thirdly.

They ask because it shows interest and (many believe) sincerity. Personally, I don't ask that unless it is something I have been searching for and not finding. As I did with one woman at a truck stop who was wearing a perfume that smelled just like what had been in my head for a while. I explained to her why I was asking, and we had a nice conversation on the merits of some of the more popular brands.
It can be intrusive and rude, depending on how it is asked. Or it can be a conversation opener. Just depends on the people involved.

I really dislike when people ask me this...I usually act like I can't remember, or say it was gift because I love the stores I shop at and I have rarely seen anyone with the same outfit as me...so I would like to keep it that way.
They money question especially bothers me, because people think I am insane for what I spend on clothing/accessories, so I hate when this is asked.
I think it's just a reflex, because after they say things like "Ohh, that's so cute!" they really have nothing else to follow up on.

I think sometimes they really want to know, especially strangers. But a lot of times it is nosey, they just want to know how much you spent. I know what you mean I get kinda frustrated I know does that to me & do you ever think that they go out & buy it? No, they do not. But that's ok, I try & not tell them the price because it is really not any of there business, especially when you can tell they are not sincere.

well, sometimes women don't even mean the complement, they are just asking "where did you get that?" so that they can tell everyone if the woman's answer is "oh it's just something i picked up at Wall-Mart"
other times maybe they really like what someone is wearing because they look good in it and they think that if they go to that store then they will look as good as the other person did.

It can get a little annoying sometimes, but some people do have a reason for it. Me, I'm a Pentecostal, so if I see someone with a long jean skirt on I ask them where they got it because denim skirts are so hard to find.

First of all the only reason the woman would say that its because the like what your wearing and they will give you a complaint... its not like they really gonna buy it... but I do agree half what you said because some womans can be bitchy about what you wear and try to show it off.

Maybe she likes the style and wants to know where you got it because usually the styles at the store are the same and she wants to get something similar to what you have because she liks it. I know I've actually gone to a store someone suggested.

Well, I ask for both reasons. If it's really cute, it'll give me an idea of where to shop. And if I can't fit it, then I want to know where you shop, so that when I do get to looking like a hottie, I can outdo you in your outfit.

it is pretty tacky.. but if it's a real friend, it shouldnt matter, you want to share with your personal friends if you got a good deal on something..
sometimes people just like to know where the good shops are. they may not go that same day, but will be inclined to visit in the future.
nope, dont want to be twins, i like my individuality..

ok, allot of people tell me to be a PERSONAL SHOPPER.
I love to shop and get a ton of bargains... also I have a great eye for things... l like to also help others.
I think there are people who would LOVE to ASK where you bought something but they are AFRAID to ask, afraid of the persons response or embarrassed.. so I just tell them.. If someone compliments me, say I love your purse, I say Thanks got it at TJ MAXX.. so they do not have to ask..
Some look puzzled like duh, like I was NOT going to ask others are like GEE THANKS>>>
Trust me.. it it a COMPLIMENT!!!!
I had girls want to be my TWIN in High School.. when I had to buy my own clothes cuz my parents were divorced... they copied my clothes, make up etc.... I hated that part but it was truly a compliment..
