Silver Ravenwolf and Scott Cunningham are both very easy to read. Their books are very basic and understandable. I highly recommend both authors.

Depending on your age level.. " teen witch" by Silver Ravenwolf.
It explains the "craft" in a simple to the point way that is easy to understand. There isnt alot of writing that people find difficlut to follow or even boring. I found this one quite good. It gives a beginner an understanding of it all.
Another one to try would be " supermarket sorceress" by Lexa Rosean It is basically just a spell book with easy spells made with everyday objects and things.

Here are a few books, Solitary Guide, by Scott Cunningham, Grimoire for the Green Witch, by Ann Moura, and any by Raymond Buckland. Actually of all of them, Cunningham and Moura are really great authors. But with magic comes laws. You break laws, you get in to trouble. When it comes to "powerful" it is not the spell, the words, the tools used...it is the intent and the focus of each of these works. One spell isn't more powerful than the other. Also, you have to understand the basics of magic ( tools, herbs, incense, candles, AND...this is big...YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS NOT A TOY...IT'S NOT ALL FUN AND GAMES...YOU WORK WITH ANCIENT FORCES...AND IF YOU #$@!% UP...IT'S ON YOUR HEAD, IT'S YOUR KARMA....YOU NEED TO KNOW THE HISTORY AND THE FUNDAMENTALS BEFORE YOU DO SPELLWORK. This is imperative...many people go into the Craft with a, being very frank, "half-assed knowledge". I just hope you understand that it is a commitment that you have to abide by.

Merry Meet!!
My first book was Wicca Craft--The Modern Witch's Book of Herbs, Magick, and Dreams by Gerina Dunwich.
It has everything that you say you want. I wouldn't stop at one book, though. You need to learn your history on the craft from A to Z. A well-versed witch is a witch that can handle herself in the world. So start building that library!
Blessed Be!

I understand the feeling of wanting to just jump right into spells but if you don't understand what you playing with, so to say, then you could really mess things up. I would recommend "The Big Blue Book" By Raymond Buckland. Any thing by SilverRaven Wolf is excellent also.
