Hey, your ignorance is showing.
All the people you listed believed in totalitarian control of the people. Conservatives believe in freedom, specifically from the government. If you can get past your blind, ignorant, hatred, you might learn something.
Conservative = Constitution = limited government = freedom.
Let me ask you this: who is in favor of government controlling your healthcare, retirement, charity, job, wages, car, display of religion, etc. Those are the people that want a totalitarian government controlling every aspect of your life.

People have a tendency to remember most of the things that have affected them directly. During a lifetime, thousands of experiences build up in each person. Most memories are shoved way back into a deep memory-closet where they eventually fade away.
If we spend all our time remembering and thinking about the horrible or uncomfortable things in our past, we will not be able to live comfortably during the current moment.
If we cannot change conditions, we tend to avoid them. We are not Gods, we are puny little creatures trying to survive under the conditions Nature has imposed upon us. We try to do it the best we can with the least effort and we hope what we are doing is the right way to do it.
When the Hitler's come along, we try to "undo" them without making too much of a change in our lives; and we always hope that this time things will be different.

Honey, I've studied history extensively, and I have heard less "hate speak" from the right than from the left. Remember, it was a Democrat who let Hitler gain power, it was a Democrat who allowed the bombing on Pearl Harbor in order to get pulled into WWII, it was a Democrat who first sent our troops into Vietnam (though it was a stupid Republican who was too weak to NOT listen to the protesters, called our troops home prematurely, and caused the death of three million innocent people across Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia).
Also know that you're right, we must learn from history.
WWII taught us what happens when we allow a hostile dictator start taking over countries around him, and slaughtering a people just because he doesn't deem them as worthy to live.
Korea taught us that just because a country invites you in, doesn't mean they really want you there.
Vietnam taught us the same as Korea, except that it also taught us not to listen to war protesters who sat and tried to dictate a war from their living room.
Going further back, the fall of Rome taught us that we should never allow such corruption and sin into our lives again, and we most certainly shouldn't blame the Christians for it.
The US is imploding, but it isn't only because of the "right-wing fascists."
It's you, me, and everyone else that is contributing to our demise. Yay for us.
Okay, now that you've elaborated, I'll continue on my thought. This "totalitarian" movement you're seeing in our federal government is NOT as extensive as you think. The surveillance program was NEVER put in place to spy on good Americans who would have nothing to do with terrorist organizations. Rather, it was instituted to CATCH terrorists.
Sure, phone records were compiled, to see who was calling where, but if you were only calling your grandma in Detroit, or your best friend down the street, they (meaning the government) don't care. However, if you were calling Abib Al-JazeemIslamJihadExtremist in Iran, then you can guarantee that they are now listening in on your calls.
The idea of the "spy program" was never to spy on all Americans. Your phone is not tapped (though mine is, living on a military post overseas), unless as I said you're buddy-buddy with Abib. Your phone was never tapped. Neither was anyone else's.
Now, you're probably wondering why it was kept a secret. Maybe to avoid a media fiasco? Maybe so that the terrorists who are in country wouldn't know about it?
This surveillance is NOT a bad thing. They've foiled three attacks in as many months as a direct result of this "spy program", so don't knock it too much.
Also, as far as this "pre-emptive" strike on Iraq, that's what I thought too, until I researched it. There WERE materials used for biological and chemical weapons found in Iraq. Hussein has always had an aggressive policy towards the US. It wasn't pre-emptive any more than bombing Japan was.

Actually, Stalin was a Communist...an ideology heavily imbedded with socialism...a VERY left wing concept.
The pendulum can swing too far in either direction...and trust me...Bush and any other president we've had are a FAR cry from being that extreme.
People aren't 'calling it while we still can' because it's melo-dramatic statement.

Because there's a huge difference between the history you are quoting, and the reality that's going on today. When you try and use the past that my father and his brothers fought so hard for, to KEEP the freedoms we have today, to try and advance your Utra-Liberal political agenda, I shut you off like a switch. Anyone who lived through both eras will too.
