Well, it's entirely a matter of opinion, isn't it? But there are some objective measures of what film-makers think is the best movie.

For instances, the American Film Institute takes a poll every few years of directors, screenwriters, and actors. It then adds up the votes, and puts the "top 100" movies in order.

Orsen Welles' 1941 classic "Citizen Kane" has been chosen as the #1 film more often than not. There are several reasons for this. First, it's a terrific movie. But more than that, it innovated film techniques and non-linear narratives that became the basis of modern movies.

My personal favorite movie is John Ford's The Searchers.
