Sounds like a vacuum leak but could also be a stuck IAC or idle air control solenoid. The most likely cause, assuming that it has a 3800 V-6 engine, is that the plastic upper intake plenum is cracked.
Not all that uncommon with the 3800. Get the check engine code checked. If it is a IAC fault, it is probably the IAC itself. If the codes are for a lean condition, then its a vacuum leak.

1) Engine idles at over 3000rpm
is abnormal
2) Engine light going on at all time
is also abnormal
3) All above should relate to
engine's CPU control-box which
had caused electrical function errors

In most countries with 2nd hand
engines for sales, buyer will shop
their desired parts and replace with
the obsolete/error ones.
Go checking with your reliable technician
(not dealer) and you may find the way out.
Good luck!

first i would like to know what the engine light codes are. this may tellyou exactly what is needed to repair your car. but you can check the throttle linkage for sticking or binding, check for a vacuum leak. other causes could be a bad throttle position sensor, mass air flow sensor, or coolant temp sensor.

sounds like some kind of vacuum leak. Next time the check light comes on go to Auto Zone and have them connect it to their computer so you can get the error codes.
