It depends on how motivated you are to learn. If you're just giving it a shot go for a First Act, Rouge, or a Washburn. They Can all be bought for 150 or less. If you are really serious about learning and are sure you will stick with it go on and buy a good guitar. I bought a Jay Turser Acoustic for $380 and the sound quality is amazing. It's worth the extra 100-200 for a quality instrument in my opinion. I definately recommend learning on an acoustic because the transition to electric will be easy. If you go for the electric first it would be much harder to transition to acoustic.

I would say a First Act brand is a good learning guitar. They have both electric, and acustic guitars, around $150-or so. All you gotta do to make them sound better, is spend less than $10 for some good strings! And then you would never know you didn't spend a lot of money. Especially just to learn. Then you can upgrade to a Gibson or something when you realize that you really enjoy playing and are beginning to get good at it. I love mine! I have an acustic, and a vintage Teisco Del Ray electric. goood luck and have fun!

Tell you what go to Musicians Friend.com and check out their guitars. I have been playing for years and they have the lowest prices on anything music wise imaginable. Most of thier equip. is shipped for free also. Check out the rouge guitars. They are inexpensive and sound decent. An acoustic guitar is the way to go if you are just starting out and want to find out if your interested or not. Because if you buy an electric you will end up buying an amplifier and cables. Hope you enjoy learning guitar. I sure do.

acoustic guitars are best for beginners and then you work up to electric or classical. as for prices, it really depends on where you go to get them. mine was free because my uncle gave it to me. cheap but quality acoustics are hard to find. they usually run about $100 and up. and i mean way up
