No I do not like Social Secutiry Insurance. It takes money from workers and gives it to non-workers. Somewhere along the line people forgot the origional intent of Social Security Insurance, which was to be used only as a curb against inflation, and instead turned it into a pension program. It is not and never was meant to be a pension program.
People should save for their own retirement. If you want true compassion, cut the capital gains tax so that middle class and lower class families can enjoy the returns on their investment, and save for their future.
And as far as the democrats as the party of compassion, let us not forget a couple of other great democrat programs, like segregation, slavery, Jim Crow laws, the grandfather clause, and the Alien and Sedition act. Oh yes, and not to forget the Japanese citizens rounded up and locked away in a camp, havig to prove that they were loyal Americans before they ould leave, and even then, were under heavy patrol. The party of compassion.....whatever.

Well, considering that I'll most likely never see a penny of the money I'm putting into it now, I can't say that it's such a good thing. By the way, how did people get through retirement before Social Security? Oh yeah, that's right - they saved their OWN money, by themselves. They didn't need the government to do it for them, and neither do we.
Also, calling the Democrats the "party of compassion" is fallacious. It's easy to be "compassionate" with someone else's money. To show TRUE compassion, use your own.

Social Security and Medicare are going to bankrupt this country. The politicians will not do anything to fix the problem. I will take the responsibility to secure my own retirement thank you very much. Anyone who relies on the government for their retirement deserves to be miserable in their old age.
By the way, I am an equal opportunity basher. Republicans aren't much better than democrats.

Most people will never get from S.S. what they have been compelled to pay into it. Too many die shortly after retirement and the gov't will not pay to the surviving spouse what they each paid in. It has become a means for the gov't to 'borrow' our money with no intention of fully paying it back. They do not invest in the people but in their own best interest. Now that I am retired and my husband is deceased my S.S. doesn't help a great deal. If we had been able to save and invest this amount I would be a lot better off.
Gov't is NEVER doing anything without first considering their pork and what they feel will get them elected.

Dear David,
It was an interesting accomplishment, and it worked well, so long as the current workforce kept up with the retiring one. Of course, with things such as abortion, birth control, and sterilization (causing lower birth rates), we have many fewer people in the workforce to fund this generation's retirement. (As Social Security, unlike 401(k), etc., is an unfunded system). Therefore Social Security will eventually collapse, bankrupt, unless funded from other sources or changed.

As a former Democrat, I confess that the party is the party of compassion, and I appreciate the participation of my fellow voters in the Democratic process.
That said, the Democratic Party abandoned me whe it was taken over by cowardly, godless, punky, and emasculated neo-fascist liberals.
